Q: No application memory left.  Getting worse and worse.  My Mac Pro is basically unusable.  I am about to go back to a PC.

I am ready to go back to a PC.  I cannot use my computer.  I have lost photos.  Can't even download from carbonite to replace lost itemsk  because of lack of application memory.  It is driving me crazy.  This computer cost too much for this kind of thing to be happening.  Mine has been happening for over a year.  I can't get answers.

Iphoto ios, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), OS X version 10.9.1

I am sick at heart, truly.  My photos are my life.

Carbonite usually fails when backing up iPhoto and iTunes databases, I am not surprised at seeing another failure.

Do you have a reliable backup system, such as Time Machine, or a clone maybe?

Guess what my system automatically up graded me to maverick 10.9.2.

No it did not, Mavericks is a manual install from the App Store, you start it, it does not start itself.

A little off subject here. But googling "carbonite daemon" brings up a bunch of website of people complaining about Carbonite daemon using a lot of cpu. So if would seem that this program isn't a friendly program.

That's entirely true, but it is not the worst thing about it, the common inability to restore Apple databases (iPhoto/iTunes) is seriously unfriendly, unless you actually planned on losing your pictures, or music.

Ahh, but Automatic software installing was introduced in Mavericks. You could download in Mt Lion, but it wouldn't install until you manually allowed it.

Besides, going from Mt Lion to Mavericks isn't an "update" it's considered an "upgrade". Little more evolved than a simple click of the "ok" button.

Why are you telling me this? Automatic Software Installing has been around since Snow Leopard. If you choose to use Automatic Downloading then it will ask to install that download upon reboot.

OP was on ML, so Mav did not 'automatically' install, regardless of the settings in system preferences.

Uninstall Carbonite completely, do it per the developers instructions, no home brewed removal methods please.

    From my I pad:

I did what you asked but there were no bookmarks in the list.  Some things were checked and some were not.  I could not find bookmarks.  Further instructions?

You mean from their website?  I cannot access it from the carbonite icon any longer but I can go out to web and try it that way.  I will let you know when I do it.

From my ipad because I just ran into script problems and had to shut down.

I have time machine but have never used it.

I have a 500 GB external flash drive but right now my computer does not even load it on to the desktop where I can see the icon.  Any suggestions there?

I am getting rid of carbonite in June.  In the meantime I am going to try and uninstall it.

To keep confusion down, no need to tell us that you are on your iPad to post.

So what is your status right now? Are you truly unable to boot up at all?

Right now I cannot access my external flash drive at all.  It won't bring it up.

My photos on this drive are inside the iPhoto system.  When I upgrade will maverick recognize the old system to open my photos ?

Another issue has just popped up.  My scripts are not working properly.  I am on ipad again.
