Q: No application memory left.  Getting worse and worse.  My Mac Pro is basically unusable.  I am about to go back to a PC.

I am ready to go back to a PC.  I cannot use my computer.  I have lost photos.  Can't even download from carbonite to replace lost itemsk  because of lack of application memory.  It is driving me crazy.  This computer cost too much for this kind of thing to be happening.  Mine has been happening for over a year.  I can't get answers.

Iphoto ios, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), OS X version 10.9.1

No I can boot.  I had to shut down.  Now I am going back to it to work some more.  But script problems shut me down.

Right now I cannot access my external flash drive at all.  It won't bring it up.

My photos on this drive are inside the iPhoto system.  When I upgrade will maverick recognize the old system to open my photos ?

When I upgraded to Mavericks, and had to upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.X, it automatically imported my photos as well.

Are all of your photos on the external hard drive?

    Hi,

    I am, finally, back, again.

You have had a busy morning!

I am going to have to go with Csound's  advice, too, about uninstalling Carbonite.

This cloud storage site appears to be NOT too Mac- friendly and seems as if a lot of other users, besides you, have had a variety of issues with recovering their Mac data from their services.

This is why I do not like remote server data storage and prefer to stay with a local hard drive storage backup plan.

Too much risk of having your data compromised during upload or download of this data if it is needed sometime much later in the future OR other issues that prevent the user from recovering data from the remote server.

I just think, at this stage, off-site "cloud" storage has not been around and tested long enough to entrust the reliability of being able to retrieve data weeks, months, years down the road.

If nothing happened to your photos on your ext. hard drive, then when you upgrade to the newest iPhoto, once downloaded and installed on your Mac, iPhoto will ask you for the location of your main iPhoto library and should rebuild it to work with the newest iPhoto version.

If you, also, use Aperture, if an update/upgrade is needed for this, as well, it will appear as an update in the Mac App Store for you to install and, again, should be able to retrieve your images through that application.

Your older version of iPhoto will no longer work with OS X Mavericks.

Some are better than others, but none are reliable enough to be the only backup, not by a long way.

I have been so absorbed in this that I just realized the following:

    1.  As I mentioned I do have Mavericks.

    2.  I did upgrade I photo.  I have. 9.5.1

    3.  That is when I lost my photos.  It did not retrieve photos from old iPhoto.  It only started adding new photos.

    4.  That is when I was forced to try and recover from carbonite.  The download crashed because of application memory issues.

    5.  Then I was using my external drive to recover my photos and it would not download either due to application memory issues.  It came up once under the old iPhoto system and then crashed.

    6.  Now, my computer is not recognizing my external drive at all.

    7.  In addition, I cannot open my new updated iPhoto.  I have to force quit it every time.

    8.  My computer is slow but working a little better except now I am getting script errors.  I have not gotten application memory problems lately.  That improved when I started terminating sections of carbonite.

    Any suggestions?

I am trying to uninstall carbonite but can no longer access from my computer.  So I went direct to site through internet ans could not locate uninstall button.  Sent email to support.  Waiting to hear from them.

Disks will not appear on the Desktop unless you have the option active.

Finder Menu > Preferences > General Tab, make sure that external disks are set to be shown on the deskop.

In respect to 'SafariDAVClient' I think that is responsible for syncing bookmarks via iCloud.

Apple have some troubleshooting for iCloud bookmarks at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4001

If that process continues to use around 80-90% of CPU you may want to investigate that a little more. Sometimes these syncing jobs need to be left to run so that they can complete, so bear that in mind. It may be worth seeing if it settles after a few hours - perhaps resolve uninstalling Carbonite first.

I have correctly uninstalled carbonite files.  I could not do it manually.  I started getting memory application problems again before I completed it.  However I then decided to download carbonite again.  After that I was able to uninstall from carbonite preferences.  Now everything is gone.  However on the activity monitor I did not see a drop in memory use.  But feel it will help anyway.  Thank you for your help.

Next issue:  getting my external flash drive to work again

It was working yesterday. But finally with all the shut downs etc...well I don't know.  The disk was encrypted, but I got tired of using the password all of the time and chose to unencrypit as that was an available choice.  By doing that did I erase my disk or make it unrecognizable to my Mac?

Can anything be done to get it back?

How is the Mac working right now? If it's not in tip top shape, perhaps we should get it there before moving on the the external hard drive.

Can you open iPhoto and tell us what version it is? iPhoto---> About---> version number.

I was able to open iPhoto once yesterday .  I do have the latest version of iPhoto.  9.5

I got memory warning yesterday maybe three times but several hours in between.  So that is an improvement.  But of course not perfect.

I have not luck with bookmark thing through safari.  I turned off everything I could.  All the instruction got a little confusing.

I could not start time machine because I could not get airport working.

    The memory still shows high.

That is kind of where I am.
