Do the clips play ok in the viewer?
Have you done any software updates recently, Seem to remember that there was an update recenlty that caused problems in fcp with HDV material.
What format are the clips. In particular the codec or compressor. Select a clip in the timeline or browser and hit command-9. And what are your sequence settings (make the timeline active and hit commnad-zero).
Do you have any graphics files in the sequence? If so, try and remove them and see if it solves the problem.
Your sequence may be corrupt. Create a new sequence and copy and paste the contents of the problem sequence into the new sequence.
And this will sometimes work. In your sequence settings, change the compressor to "animation" hit ok. and then reset it back to the original compressor.

Apr 2, 2014 9:44 PM in response to Michael Grenadierby VJK,★HelpfulThanks so much Michael, I copy and pasted the elements to a new sequence and that worked the charm
Seems this is beginning to happen more and more to me, corrupted sequences and such, I will be more wary of that in the future
Thanks so much

Apr 3, 2014 6:13 AM in response to VJKby Michael Grenadier,If this is happening frequently there's probably something wrong with your system or your workflow. Make sure you have sufficient drive space - a minimum of 10% free space on all drives and 20% on your boot drive. Make sure you keep your fcp project files under 100 mbs. And what OS are you working with? FCP was designed to work with snow leopard and the further away you get from SL, the more likely there will be issues.
