The new motorola Q works excellent with thr 17" MBP, straight out of the box. Through my bluetooth connection I was able to sync with the MBP. I have no problems transfering videos, music, pictures or my contacts. My other phone ( cingular 8125 ), was never able to sync with my MBP. I just wanted to share that info with you. And the Q is a superb phone/PDA, worth evey cent.

Thanks! I've been considering one of those little guys once my equipment upgrade feature becomes due from Cingular.

I'm a Discussion virgin here, but desperation forces my hand...

My phone took a dive into the Saco river and I need a new one. Seems like a great opportunity to upgrade to a smartphone since I've been pining for synced calendar, contacts, tasks for years.

    My needs:
    - A phone that can work in rural AZ as well as Boston/DC (Verizon has been adequate to date)
    - PDA functionality that can synch with my Windows PC at work and my Mac at home (calendar, tasks, contacts)

I've been looking at the Q since I can get an upgrade with Verizon for $200 (seems cheap). I'm worried about synch problems though...

    Hi,
Could you post more details as to how you setup your Motorola Q with your MBP? I am interested in purchasing this smartphone and I did a search on these boards and found that others have had problems with isync. Your input would be much appreciated.

    Thank You

Are these all Intel Macs you are using to sync to the Q or will a Power PC mac sync as well?

Yes, there is some support for Mac with the Q. However, you will not be able to sync with your Mac without a third party app. The only program that makes this capable is Mark/Space and their beta Missing Sync for Windows Mobile. Out of the box, you will be able send contacts to the Q via Bluetooth and browse files/copy files.

Here's a write up on how to sync using Missing Sync at:

Here's a how-to on tethering written by a contributing member on the forums.

    Hope this clears things up.
