Apr 9, 2014 8:11 AM in response to Allan Eckertby bomdia,Thanks. It didn't work though... when I start my computer, I hear three beeping signals which are being repeated. The screen is black. I'll try disk utililty. Do you know if disk utililty will delete the files? Haven't done a backup in 30 days...

Apr 9, 2014 8:18 AM in response to bomdiaby Allan Eckert,Three beeps indicate bad RAM.
If reseated of the RAM cards doesn't resolve the problem then they will have to be replaced.
As to Disk Utility deleting files that all depends on what you do with it. It can do functions that will delete data.
I suggest you backup now. Bad RAM can cause the data to be unrecoverable.
