Q: Is it still possible to set up a hotmail account in Mail?

Is it still possible to set up a hotmail account in Mail?

I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.8.4 and Mail 6.5 installed.

I have done all the procedure but it does not work for my Hotmail.com nor for my Libero.it accounts.

I got it to work with my yahoo.com.au account.

I there a reason for that?

Thanks for any assistance.

I did try the battery trick before and it does not work ...

I still cannot either disconnect the mouse nor close Bluetooth when this happens ...

The only way is to restart the PC.

I think that the problem may be that I have two MacBook Pro and two mice ...

Both mice are paired with both mac ... so i guess that sometimes they may conflict ...

I have tried the "favoritism" option for now ...

If it does not work I will try to un-pair them so that one mouse is paired with only one Mac ...

But this will take a few days to be tested ...

I'll let you know if it works.

    Thanks for now.

Re my e-mail sinc issue ... I am in the process of setting up a gmail account!

I will then try to connect my Hotmail account to the gmail one ...

On the Hotmail website, look for 'Forwarding' options, probably in settings.

The mouse being paired with 2 Macs may be connected, haven't had the opportunity to do that.

I have a mac book pro and have just set up my hotmail.

All i did was choose "other" account type from the list given (icloud, exchange etc) and entered my email address and password and it's working.

Hope it works for you too.

There was a headache to access Hotmail account by Mail synchronization. After 10 days of fuzz around realized that the reason was to set the option “Two-step verification” (Account Settings / Security Info). It is an advanced security feature that makes it harder for a hacker to sign in to your account with just a stolen password. Once erased this option the Mail works properly to send and receive Hotmail messages.

Hi, i had the same problem with the email account and just sorted it today. If you log in to live mail website using safari and go into account settings (little cog, then more email setting) then click connect devices and apps with POP, enable use and also enable other devices to delete emails etc. Once this is done go back to mail application, setup new other account, enter your email and password and it should now automatcaly conect. Hope thie helps.

Hi jwlv24, I've done all that countless times ever since Hotmail started rejecting Mail's request for emails a couple of months ago and your solution hasn't worked for me!

However, I've just erased the option for "Two-step Verification" in my Hotmail account as suggested by the previous poster AntonioGrecco and it worked immediately. Many thanks to him!

    Hi

Did you try AntonioGrecco's solution I mentioned in my post? Have you checked whether or not you have the "Two-step Verification" switched on in Hotmail? If you have, switch it off and it should then work

Try imap-mail.outlook.com as your hotmail incoming server.

    Hi,

after 6 months I have tried again to set up my hotmail account on Mail.

I still cannot get it to work.

    This is the situation:

    - I have sucesfully conncted mail to the hotmail server (see picture below).Screen Shot_01.png

    - The inbox folder does not show/vizualize any message (there are actually more than 1000 in it). Infact it shows that I have to unread messages but it does not visaulize them nor the mesages that I have already read.

    Screen Shot_02.png

    - what i find strange is that I can see the messages in all the other folders like the junk folder as well as drafts, sent, trash and also my personal ones like the one called 3 21 Nolan

    Screen Shot_03.png

    any suggestion?

I have the two stepp verification option disabled in hotmail.

Please let me know if anything needs clarification.

After I read your problems, of course I had exactly the same problem you have, I tried everything that others recommended, but it still didn't work. So what I did is that I didn't go to exchange, but I signed in by other account. I will give you the screen shot below.

    Screen Shot 2014-04-09 at 1.51.31 PM.png

Can you see the "Add Other Account" at the very bottom?

click that and try to log in with your hotmail account. It won't ask for the stupid server address whatsoever.

Once you can get on your email, if you can't see your old emails, check the junk box. Because of your filtering level, you may not see your regular contacts email. I believe it would work as mine works now. Hope you have a wonderful day!

Plus, if the incoming emails keep going into your junk box, change your filtering level or move the emails in junk to inbox. let me know if it works. Thank you.
