You can have both of them configured in System Preferences > Print & Scan, but you have to choose which one you'd like to use each time you print.
If you prefer its Ethernet connection, delete the existing wireless printer entry in Print & Scan and add the "new" printer. You might need to refer to the printer's documentation to determine which connection method it will be using. Not all of them can use both simultaneously.

Apr 9, 2014 2:09 PM in response to Maplaw85by greg sahli,I think there's some confusion about what you want to do. Try describing your network for us again, please. For example, is the printer a wireless printer and has it joined your network, or are you using "ad hoc" direct wifi from the Macbook Air to the printer?
Are the ethernet ports on the same router/gateway that supports wifi, or is there a second wifi router in the picture?
When you say you can't add the printer, does that mean when the iMac is on ethernet only, the printer doesn't show up in the "default" window of Print & Scan prefs?

Apr 10, 2014 7:20 AM in response to Maplaw85by Maplaw85,Sorry for the confusion...
I am in an office buillding. And we have a Ricoh Copier/printer connected to our Server (via ethernet)
I just purchased two computers.
first MacBook Air. I am connected to a secure server via WIFI.
I added the printer and it prints fine. the printer is not wireless
I connect an ethernet adapter to my lightnig port and connect to the same secure server via ethernet connection and it will not print to the printer. I deleted the printer and tried adding it via ethernet connection and it will not even find the printer. I type in the IP address and it still will not locate it. if I open a browser I can type the IP address and see the printer.
This is the same scenerio with the IMac too.
