The phone still turns on, but is bent. more

It certainly won't do any harm to try.

Contacts, calendars, and notes are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures are designed to be regularly copied off the device to a computer force safe keeping.
All media on the device should also be in iTunes on the computer, as designed.
iDevices are designed to be backed up to iTunes on a computer or an iCloud account regularly.
Have you failed to use the device as designed?
