Q: Snow Leopard install disk question.

Hello OSX community!

To install OSX10.6 on a 2010 MacBookPro, must I use a MacBook specific install disk? (I misplaced the original disk). I do have a clean Apple OSX10.6.3 disk -is that OK? Or are there necessaryMacBook specific files that are missing from that disk?

Also - are updates to 10.6.8 still available?

Thank you!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I like the idea of a universal 10.6.7 disk - I have an iMac one somewhere, so I'll try it later in the week and report back.

If you have a slipstreamed 10.6.7 disk, why would it be limited to the iMac?  Wouldn't it in effect be a 10.6.7 version of the retail Install DVD?

No I meant I have a 10.6.7 grey disk that came with a July 2011 iMac. The idea of grafting the 'universal' booting/installing properties from a 10.6.3 retail disk onto it would in effect make a 10.6.7 retail disk capable of booting any Snow Leopard capable machine. That's what appeals to me since I have several Macs that are too new to boot/install from the 10.6.3 retail disk - meaning I have to have the grey disks from all of them, and keep them fault free, or risk not being able to boot them into Snow Leopard.

I think those instruction are limited to slipstreaming the 10.6.3 retail version.  It probably would not work with a grey limited 2011 disc, as that disc is missing files needed by other 2011 Macs, other than the model that came with that grey disc.

If it did work, it would only work for your model iMac and what is the point?  Just as easy to restore from the grey disc and then use Software Update to go to 10.6.8, which is the preferred full update anyway.

OK: my reply was from a misunderstanding of your most recent post.
