    I received the same message:

"the startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition"

I downloaded the Boot Camp software to an external USB formatted for MS-DOS (FAT32). When loading BOOT CAMP ASSISTANT, I try to download the Windows support software. I am currently running iMac 9,1 Intel Core 2 Duo with Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.

How can I create multiple partitions on the drive?
