Q: Can't sign into iTunes Store - endless loop. Help!!

I am running iTunes 10.4 under OS X 10.7. All of a sudden I can't sign into my iTunes Store account. I am entering the correct password, but it just keeps asking me for my Apple ID and password over and over again. I enter that information, and it keeps asking me again and again. This only just started happening - that was well after I upgraded to Lion, so I know that's not the reason.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what did you do about it? How can I fix this?

    Hi!

I had the same problem: Could open and purchase songs in iTunes - but could not open my account info. Got intp the "enter your password" loop every time.

After several different approaches I changed the cookie settings in Safari (and Firefox which is my standard browser). I allowed those apps to accept cookies.

And voilá, this fixed it. I can login into my iTunes account info again.

I guess this is not a fix for everybody out there - but I just wanted to let you know. Maybe it helps....

Yup.  Same problem.  Quitting iTunes and restarting seems to work for awhile.  Before the endless loop, I had to sign in a couple times per day just to download my TV series.  Now iTunes no longer downloads TV, so I have to watch it online on the AppleTV.  iTunes is horrendous.  Somebody please fix it!

About the 'SC Info' folder trick which is sometimes used:

On my system, I type "Go to folder" and then view by columns, as is normal when employing this trick. However, the SC Info folder shows up GREYED OUT in the column. And when I right-click and send this folder to the trash, it doesn't actually go to the trash - it just disappears. And the trick doesn't even work, either.

Anyone know how to fix this? Or why the folder would be greyed out like this?

I have had the same problem for years. Every couple of months iTunes decides it doesn't like you anymore so it insists you change your password which you do and it still won't let you in. I've got a small notebook completely full of scribbled out iTunes passwords I've had to use just to buy music from them.

I wonder if PC users also have this problem. There seems to be an eternal list of interface problems from iMac to absolutely everything. I've totally given up on iTunes now and just use the youtube to mp3 converter. That works every single time.

On that note, I've also given up on the iMac and am looking forward to delivery of my new Asus PC.

Same problem here! So frustrating. Changed my credit card and can't update my billing info. Can't even sign into iTunes. Too bad as I was trying to buy something. Guess I'll give my money elsewhere.

Just found out it seems I somehow DO have two iTunes accounts (I guess I accidentally set one up using my old @me.com account at some point ~ my fault for just mindlessly following prompts while downloading something, probably).  So, I have a handful of apps that I can't update using my 'regular' iTunes account.  So, I logged out of that one, logged-in using my me.com one and... like everyone else, iTunes status bar at the top of the page scrolls endlessly, blue & white barbershop pole, without actually loading.

BTW, I'm using a 2011 MacBookPro and I have NOT downloded Mavericks.  I'm still on 10.8.4 (I forget which cat that is).

I had a similar issue. I was able to "sign in" to the iTunes store, but when I tried to view my account information iTunes repeatedly asked for my password in an endless loop. I solved the issue by unblocking cookies in Safari: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3388

Just had this problem after having to block them to be able to log in at all!

As I couldn't log in to iTunes at all I had to delete the apple cookies from Safari and then always block cookies. This allowed me to log in to iTunes but bought up the password loop.

Once logged in sucessfully had to quit iTunes, load Safari, unblock cookies, quit Safari, re-open iTunes and job done.

Sound a pain but less so than full system restore!

Biggest question I would ask is how can apple's own cookies stop their software from working? Somewhat of an own goal!

This is the simple solution I needed after getting the endless loop of entering the password, without success. I would think somewhere in iTunes the warning should pop up that Safari's cookies need to be accessed in order to sign in to iTunes!!

I agree - I wasted too much time to find out that I needed to change my cookie settings in Safari.  itunes should be able to work independently of that setting, or at least detect the problem and recommend the solution (still, not my first choice).

Holy wow... This worked. I've been stuck in this infinite log-in loop forever and this worked.

I always thought it was some third party software that I had... maybe f.lux. But it's Apple's own mediocre browser that caused it. The only thing I used safari for was to download chrome and it still managed to screw up my computer.
