I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what configuration you are describing. If you are talking about using multiple desktop "spaces" in 10.9 Mavericks, you may find this article helpful:

Apr 12, 2014 9:31 AM in response to muelledby CT,Strictly speaking the Mac OS does not do the "split screen" (as, e.g., Windows does). Aside from the various Mission Control, Desktops, Expose stuff just mentioned, here is a little app many people seem to like (although I've not tried it).
