Hi muelled,

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what configuration you are describing. If you are talking about using multiple desktop "spaces" in 10.9 Mavericks, you may find this article helpful:

Strictly speaking the Mac OS does not do the "split screen" (as, e.g., Windows does). Aside from the various Mission Control, Desktops, Expose stuff just mentioned, here is a little app many people seem to like (although I've not tried it).
