Q: identifying keyboard panel

Hello all,

I am having issues identifying a keyboard panel I am about to put on eBay. I salvaged it fron an old i-Book before I scrapped it and for the life of me I cant remember the i-Book model. I could have sworn it was only a 12.1" screen but when I type the part number into google it returns a mix of 14 and 12.1" results. I also do not know what to refer to the connection type as. any help would be appreciated. The part number on the back is US KGL-A77WG

The part number does not match the usual Apple part series, in general, as those are more along the lines of these: 922-6638, 922-6901, 922-6189, 922-6637, 922-6913

A replacement or original keyboard for a 12" or 14" would have different length cables, if not more differences between their build and product designation. Too bad you didn't have the original serial number, as some spec info could be found in an online identify by serial number lookup; to include build month, year.

A few leads (some false) appear along this line of search:

Hopefully you can match up the part with correct references.

Nope, just sort of muddied the waters, tell me , is the ribbon able to identify the model or give some indication. It seems to have a pretty unique looking ribbonIMG611.jpg

Whoop, I did not notice that you had a few more links there. This one nailed it shut for me. Thanks

There are a few details lacking in their description, one that would be helpful, would be to have the measurement of the cable length and a few other specifications included, to help identify the part when none of the other numbers really are helpful. Or when some of them are missing.

Short of actually having the 12" and 14" iBooks set side by side with their keyboards partially pulled aside, and then a picture of the differences stated in text overlay, so one could guess later (with only one iBook present, or just the keyboard) what you actually have. Since there are several optional part numbers suggested to be a suitable replacement keyboard, even at welovemacs, one may actually have to give the supplier a call and ask for details... and had an older one you needed to match.

Some of the online sales adverts for these parts are also lacking in details; so if the parts were derived from a take-apart, the seller should be smart enough to retain basic configuation info of the host computer and include that in their posted information, to avoid mistakes and to save time or expense of all followers.

Glad to hear you found some matching information.

    Good luck & happy computing!
