Q: how can I buy an iTunes gift certificate for someone living in Colombia?

How do I buy an iTunes gift certificate from US iTunes for someone who lives in Colombia?  The fine print on the gift certificate page says it can only be redeemed in a US iTunes store.

Is this true? And if so is there a work around?

iTunes, OS X Mountain Lion

    You cannot.

    Yes.

    "iTunes, OS X M"

    No.

You would have to physically be in Columbia and have a Columbian itunes account with a Columbian credit card to do this.

    Sorry.

Please note the difference between Colombia, a country and Columbia, a US state. This happens over and over and this ignorance is disrespectful.

What are you talking about? There is no US State called "Columbia". There is Washington DC (District of Columbia). Washington DC is not a state. Please clarify your statement.

    Huh?

There is no U.S State of Columbia.

What caused you to dig up a post from two years ago and post a nonsense response?

    Yes, District of Columbia

I don't think it is nonsense response. It is basic civility to properly name the countries

Again, Washington DC is NOT a US State. You are misinformed. Calling someone else ignorant when in fact you are displaying a clear lack of understanding about the United States and what constitues them is unnecessary.

Get informed. Read up on it. Washington DC is almost never referred to as the District of Columbia. It is not a US State. It is the Capital of the United States. But when someone asks about Columbia, they are talking about the country.

    Cheers,

Wow.  There is a lot of anger in these replies. I did a search and came across this post so I did not mind it was two years old.

Sarcastically replying "Public school" does not add much value.

District of Columbia seems appropriate but even that was not enough

In the same way that I acknowledged my mistake by saying "Yes, District of Columbia". You guys could have said mmmmhhhh yes Colombia is correct not Columbia. Instead the preferred path is wrath, anger, sarcasm and insult.

OK, I see what point you were trying to make previously. You are talking about the misspelling of the name. That was SO not clear in your post. As you can tell, both roamminggnome and I missed your intent.

If you want to educate people on the common misspelling of the country Colombia, then state your case clearly. You will get a lot further that way. Being condescending about the mistake is not productive, and you won't achieve your goal that way.

That having been said, it seems a bit pointless to bring up a two year old post that has a spelling error in it and then post to it only to call out that error.

This is not an English course - it is a technical user to user forum. We have to put up with egregious spelling errors daily on this site. It is not the place to start a campaign on the proper spelling of the country Colombia. You might want to try to direct that considerable indignation somewhere where it will actually make a difference.

Sorry for the misspelling in my post of the country. I can promise you, I won't make that mistake again.

    Cheers,

In our global society, I think Itunes/Apple needs to come up with a solution to this. My twist on this is I bought a used iPod from Ebay and it works fine. However, I bought an iTunes card down the street from where I live in Florida, and then tried to credit the iPod with the $50. It would not work. It gave me the error message that I must "redeem in a US storefront." I even took the card to the local Apple “storefront”, but apparently they a different franchise or entity then the folks who issue the iTunes gift cards and can’t help. So the error message “storefront” actually means online store. Anyways, it just leaves you feeling frustrated and with no where to turn.
