Yes if it is not due to misuse.

hmmmm, I guess "misuse" is based on the honor system? Seems like it would be hard to prove either way.Glad to hear that screen cracks will be covered. That alone would make apple care worth it!

ONLY Apple Care Plus covers accidental damage, which is how a broken/cracked screen is defined.

If you have apple care plus then you can take yours in, pay the service fee (I've seen $49 as the fee) and walk out with a replacement device (may or may not be refurbished). You are allowed 2 instances of accidental damage replacement.

If you don't have apple care plus then what you get is the out of wrranty replacement, the fee for that starts at 219 for a mini and 299+ for the newer ipads

With AppleCare, if the damage is declared as "misuse", I understand that you can get the screen repaired for a reduced cost twice within the coverage period. Which would also more than make the cost of AC worth it.

BTW, note that screen "repair" entails you hand in the device and be given a blank refurbished unit of identical characteristics. So be sure to have an up-to-date backup handy. I recommend you use iTunes and local storage on the computer running it for said backup. Much more complete and quick, in comparison to an iCloud backup.
