Q: Why is my Iphoto not working?

I just downloaded Mavericks and now my iphoto wont work.  I've read that if this happens you should reinstall iphoto, but if I do will my photos get deleted?  What do I do?  I don't want to lose my photos.

you probably need to upgrade or update to iPhoto '11 version 9.5.x in the app store

and no you will not lose yoru photos - unless something goes wrong which is why you must have a current backup prior to upgrading or updating any software

and if you do not always have a bood backup hen you are 100% guarented lose yoru photos and everything else sooner or later - things certainly do go wrong

This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:

Note 1every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.

Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1application on the library before opening it with iPhoto9.5.1.
