Same problem as everyone else, ATV1 that has worked flawlessly since 2009.  This began this morning for me here in Japan.  Could this be an update that is blocking overseas IP addresses?

    Hi Georgevargas,

I had the AppleTV Flash from FireCore installed on my ATV1, but it had the same issue's. I then did a Factory restore but the problem remained.

I just spoke to the Apple support helpdesk here in then Netherlands, they were very friendly but didn't know or haven't seen any information that iTunes Store support was discontinued for ATV1. He did how ever send me a link to run diagnostic on the ATV:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1560?viewlocale=en_US

    I havent' run it yet.

For the slow response, the juddering is the most annoying part, because it makes my ATV1 practically unusable.

The guy from Apple did say if the problem wasn't solved after Easter that I should send him an e-mail

Diagnostics didn't help jvenneker - it just told me ATV working correctly....

First generation, same as the others.

It's been working perfectly for years, until now.

Short of reverting to an earlier version of iTunes that would probably create more problems of its own, I have done everything I can think of including running diagnostics, factory restore, reconnect to iTunes, connect to another computer running iTunes, rebuild iTunes library, turn syncing off/on, reauthorize computer, log in/out of ITunes store etc etc.  None of it made the slightest difference to the symptoms others have discussed here.

Given that we have all experienced this same problem at the same time surely there's an issue with Apple's servers/systems?

I'm using ATv 1st Gen (not Jailbroke).  My neigbor down the road is experiencing the same issue with his 1st Gen set as well.

    Re slow response juddering.

I just noticed that when I play a recorded tv show stored on the hard drive of my ATV, with my computer turned off so no iTunes connection, my modem light starts flashing continuously indicating the ATV is directly communicating something substantial over the Internet.

If I turn off the modem So the ATV can't access the Internet the playback improves.

I have no idea why it should be doing that and I'm pretty sure it wasn't doing it before.

Glad to see these posts (sort of ), my 1st gen ATV is doing the same as every one speaks of in this string.  I have done virtually everything that you have all been discussing to try to resolve the problem on my side, thinking that is could be my problem.  As I see here, more than likely the only problem I have is not owning a newer ATV!!  I have had my ATV for many years, so maybe it is just time to upgrade.  Like me and my iMac it is just getting old!!

I strongly recommend we all move to following thread and bring in others as we find them:

Just to update anyone just joining:

The issue appears to have started yesterday for most of us and a day earlier for some but definitly this week.  It appears to affect ATV generation 1 and as of this moment is still affecting my ATV generation 1.  We are still waiting to hear from ATV generation 2 and 3 owners.

Apple has not recognized this issue as per at least two reports from users that were able to get phone support.

IrvBd has an ATV generation 3 and the issue seems to have been resolved for him.

Restart/Restore/rebuild/different computer/ does not resolve the issue.

Disconnecting the ATV from Internet access resolves the play back stuttering from content on the ATV hard drive and sluggish remote response BUT of course will stop you from having Internet access.

Connected to the Internet (via WIFI or Ethernet) or disconnected from the Internet, you still cannot connect to the iTunes Store.  It seems we are being blocked somehow.  Every continent except the North and South poles have checked in with the same problem.

Connected directly to your computer via Ethernet while disconnected from the Internet will allow your ATV to communicate with your iTunes application and will stream your content to your ATV.

Bottom line: Any attempt your ATV makes to get online (connect through the Internet to the iTunes Store) degrades play back, degrades remote control response, and disconnects your iTunes content from your ATV making the content on the ATV hard drive the only content accessible.

    Thanks GeorgeVargas,

I've posted responses on the other page, but you might be interested that I have issues with watching any movie regardless of whether it's on the ATV 1 HDD or an external HDD.

    Regards,

I have the same problem since yesterday.  I restore all my network and apple tv1 to factory default settings and started an overal reconfig but had no luck getting the apple tv back to the way it worked for the last 6 years.

I have read all the prevoius comments and my problem is the same and some of you have detailed the problems very well.  Apple needs to take action now if they want to keep their customers happy.  Before I upgrade to an apple tv 3rd gen I will research all the options out there.
