Q: Cannot get Air Play to work--tried everything :(

I have three, relatively new mac products--iphone 5s, iPad, and late 2012 macbook pro. I cannot get the airplay icon to show up on the phone or iPad. I have tried two different wi-fi networks, removed firewall on MB and router at home. Even when I am certain they are all on the same network, the Air Play icon will not show on my phone or ipad. I am trying to send my screen to my MB so I can record myself using apps. I have been trying for three days to get this to work. I have the Reflector App installed.

I am a teacher and need to record myself using apps for curricium I am writing.

So to recap:

Reflector App installed

same network

firewalls off

new gear with Airplay capability

tried another wifi network

all systems up to date

Tried to work with Reflector support, but that hasn't helped

I don't know what to do now. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

I did find the AirPlay icon hidden in the Cloud icon that appears everywhere (ie. Photos) after 7.1. Hope this helps.

Airplay doesn't work IOS to OS. It works IOS to IOS and OS to OS.

Ok, so is the Reflector app supposed to be a work around for that? They show how to send your iphone/ipad screen to the computer. Is there any solution that you know of for that?

I have the exact same issue! This has been super iritating; I have:

Products:
iPhone 5S on iOS 7.1 (11D167)
Macbook Pro early 2013 running OS X 10.9.2
AT&T Router / No firewall active
Reflector App 1.6.3.5 (1635)

Both devices:
Same wireless network "ATT232"
Bluetooth Off (tried on)

I tried rebooting everyhing: my router, my computer, and my phone. I "Reset network settings" on my phone. My Apple TV displays as a possible Airplay connection, but my Reflector app doesn't -- I'm lead to believe that the latest build of reflector app might be broken. No response from the developer :-(
