Same problem here, I have 2 x Gen 1 Apple TVs, and they are both hosed!

one of them seemed to work reasonably well although no itunes connectivity,

but i made the mistake of restarting the device now both of my apple TVs have half of the menue's missing, Schizophrenic icons, lagging menu navigation, and stuttering playback,

nice one Apple, what the heck!

Hello Everyone, sadly adding myself here to the list of affected users having an ATV1 with no itunes content whatsoever.

Mine is a non hacked unit and is the first time I experience something as odd and distasteful as this with an apple gadget. Some accidental cut off huh?

Hope it gets solved any time soon along with an apology from the company.

Yup - me too (in NZ).  1st gen non-jailbroken on 3.0.2.

I cant see why it would be a deliberate cutoff - its not going to gain any friends and lets face it, i'm not spending money on content while its out of action.  Seems much more likely to be a goof if you ask me.

    Re: Media Attention

    That's good.

I think the earlier post from "the german" is on the money in identifying the cause.

The ATV is continually and unsuccessfully trying to connect to the iTunes store but not liking the responses it is getting from the content provider server. That is preventing the store menu items from being displayed and compromising playback. On another thread other posts have also aired similar suspicions. Given that those content servers/mirror sites are usually hidden from public view it's unlikely there will be an open acknowledgement of the cause of this problem but there is hope of a resolution after the Easter break.

    Same problem here (Germany).

I've done a factory reset. Problem still exists.

Same here in Hong Kong, with an ATV 1st gen purchased in Australia, never hacked.

Symptoms are identical to other users on the thread.

"Genius" at Apple store clueless as claims he doesn't know 1st Gen because they never sold it in Hong Kong.

Apple - Do something about it !! Ther's no way I will upgrade to ATV 3 or 4 as my 8-year old NEC Plasma Screen is working fine and doesn't support HDMI but uses video components!

So last night both of my ATV 1's stopped playing the Movies and TV Shows. I have restarted all connections routers, ATV's etc. I have the same problem with shared video's just as the ones synced with the ATV. The actual problem indications are the movie plays either slow or not at all. the unwatched tiles on the main screen flicker in between the ticket icon an dthe video thumbnail, even when I can play I video the audio will continue but the video staggers through skipping portions. Music can be played, Youtube can be utilized with no problems. The software is up to date and I have reset settings no luck. Additionally I have slicked one and restored it back to factory and also resynced the movies still no changes. Why now and why both has both me to believing the computer/LAN however everything here checks SAT too. Also what brings me back to the ATV's is I normally sync and shut down the computer and play what is saved on the ATV's which now cannot be done either. At this point I and very happy to still own DVDs. Anyone out there got a solution I am game.

Be nice if apple sent a reply. You telling me apple has only got tech support in Christian countries?
