Q: Windows get stuck at the top

Sometimes windows seems to get stuck at the top of the screen on Mavericks. I can drag them away, but as soon as I let them go, it snaps back into place in the top left corner of the screen. Seems to happen when switching between users, via the login screen. Is there a fix?

    Good workaround Rafael.

"Right-Click" on Dock (your preference will be different for bringing up the Dock Menu)

    Select "Turn Hiding On"

    The window gets unstuck!!!

    "Right-click" on dock and

    Select "Turn Hiding Off"

Go back to saving the world or whatever you were doing!!

I get the same with finder windows occassionally. The quick fix is to use alt-cmd-esc and Force Quit the Finder application. This will automatically restart with the windows  in new positions that allow you to move and resize them.

Hey guys i receive my "Air" with mavericks no problem at all. I keep telling you apple don't give a ____ because this does not happen to all only a few. So the bad news is we (till I sell my mac mini) will have to wait for 10.10 to see a fix. Now next week I am getting another "Air" this one 11" I love the 13" but were I am going is like showing sugar to the kids. So I hope the 11" does not have this problem. I am sure is developer ____ happen. The one application I was suspecting was TinkerTool but I was wrong because I use and it works well. Now this leave two more cleanmymac and dockview I going to try them, and maybe let you know, if you don't hear from my is that I am busy preparing for the world cup.

    Good luck

Works for me! Thanks so much, this has been bugging me for ages (without bothering to look up a solution).

Perhaps we should start listing what apps we have running when this occurs, to see if the are any common ones that could be the culprit:

    • Bartender
    • Divvy
    • Droplr
    • Flux
    • Google Chrome
    • Google Drive
    • Dropbox
    • Fantastical
    • Screenflow
    • Skype
    • Twitter
    • Witness
    • Undercover
    • Alfred
    • Shortstop

You can add Photoshop Elements 11 Organiser to the list, the Editor is fine. None of the "work arounds" suggested have worked for me. (MacBook 2009)

I'm experiencing similar behavior. I can move windows around and that's fine, but as soon as I try to resize them they snap back to some anchor position on the screen. I'm not certain on the exact cause, but I do frequently change screen resolutions and use RealVNC extensively.

However, I noticed from balupton's list a common application and that's Divvy. For this week I quit Divvy and so far the problem has not recurred for me. I've opend Apple bug ID 16573875 and sent an email to Divvy support to take a look into this.

I'll add that when the problem occurred, moving the Dock seemed to fix the issue for me.

    Video example of the issue:

Make of Divvy here.  It looks like jmstacey has the Dock on the Left and showing.  What about others with this issue?  I've never seen it myself, but I always keep my Dock on the bottom and hidden.

I have been having problems with Photoshop Elements Organizer getting stuck in the top left corner. My solution has been to go into System Preferences >Display > Resolution> Scaled > 1280 x 720. Then change back to Best for Display, and hopefully the Photoshop Window will pop back into the Desktop.

Not permanent, but it's worth a try

Tried that, now Elements Organiser has moved even further and is unusable! May have to go back to using my PC which is very disappointing as I was getting so fond of my Mac I was considering getting an iMac. This seems to be an unsolvable problem.

Are you all using two monitors? in my case it looks like a display bug, the solution for me was to disconnect the second monitor, then move the window and connecting it back (if i disconnect it and plug it again, it will pop back upper corner and get stuck). Let me know if it helps (this is my first post here in apple )

Tried the suggestions in order, no luck until this one. Moving the dock worked for me.
