Q: No Sound with Texts after iOS7 Update

After updating my iPhone 4 to iOS7 I have no sound for incoming texts when my phone is sleeping.  All other sounds ok.  Tried my alarm with phone asleep and it works.  Music plays after going to sleep.  Haven't noticed anything else not working.  When I wake up my phone the text message is there, but, no sound when it came.

This was it! The other suggestions just turn Bluetooth on again because those are the default settings.

No idea why Apple would link text message tones to Bluetooth but they have.

Turning Bluetooth back on solves this issue.

Bluetooth is on. This is not the problem I am having, nor the solution, unfortunately.

Try turning Bluetooth off, power cycle phone, turn Bluetooth on. Had to do that when I thought disabling Bluetooth again might be possible.

also had lost sound with texts and tried shutting bleutooth, rebooting and all other suggestions made here. Today had sms from new contact and to my surprise had sound. Checked what was different in the contact file with this new contact and my usual customized contacts. My routine contacts had personalised sound for phone and doing so I forgot to configure sound for SMS.  In all customised contats ios 7 had somehow decided that they had no sound or vibration with texts. I corrected this for all my customised contacts and I have sound with texts for everyone now. Hope this helps

THIS FIXED IT! Thanks, coolmtl! Nothing else was working for me and I went into my contacts and noticed the setting for text messages was "default". Went in and changed it to a specific sound (I chose the Horn) and viola! I now have sound on my text messages! Granted I had to do this for every contact I text with but what the ****, it's worth it to have sound and actually know when I receive a text. God I used to be such an Apple fan...it's getting harder and harder to defend Apple to my Android friends.

    Anyway thanks so much!

I found Do Not Disturb in Settings. There is a Manual setting, which is off, and a Scheduled setting, which is also off.

There is also a Silence setting. You can either choose Always or Only while iPhone is locked (Incoming calls and notifications will be silenced while iPhone is locked). You have to choose one of these. My 5c is set to Only while iPhone is locked. I want turn that off so I'll always be able to hear my text alert.

There is also a setting for Allow Calls From and I chose All Contacts (Incoming calls from your contacts will not be silenced). I want to do this for text alerts.

Hey! If Bluetooth is "on" slide to off.

    Then turn back "on"

Fixed all sound issues for me! Finally!!

At each “update” Apple seems to take one step forward and two steps back.

Pervious update suddenly made my SIM inoperative; this update screws up the sounds of notifications.

I really start to believe there is no interconnection at all between software engineers of the different parts of iOS.

Everybody does his own business, sets up his own preferred look and feel, changes colors, etc. without looking at the whole.

Look at the different keyboards, in one application it is black on white, in another it is with on black, …. No consistency at all !

This is not the way to catch up with competition, even worse, I start losing faith in iPhone and iOS !

If you're like me and obsessed with listening to podcasts all day, you may have tried to setup your new iPhone 5s while watching The Great Gatsby and not realizing you left the earbuds connected to the phone which are not in your ears because you're watching Leo chase Daisy around. Not gonna hear it like that. Was just about to reset it when I went to make a turkey and swiss on wheat with some ranch and mayo. While in the kitchen, I tested sending a text from another iPhone to the new one and realized I was still tethered to the earbuds I had tucked under my shirt.

Wow, ever think you complicate things too much in the interest of making things easy?

Hi I have the 5c and just had to turn the switch above the volume keys on the left side. Didn't even know that was a button :p

For those of you having issues not getting your notification sounds while using the Google app, this solved the problem for me: go into your settings > privacy > microphone and turn it off for Google. That's it. Now I get my notification sounds while using the Google app. Hope this helps you guys out!

My sound still won't work after trying everything listed here.  i don't get it.  I updated to iOS 7 and lost sound with incoming calls, texts, and emails, and outgoing text / email "swish" sounds.  Still can play music and talk on the phone.  When I test it the sound works perfectly.

When I updated the latest iOS7 (.1?) to my iPhone the sound didn't work.  But after I updated my iPad the sound for my phone started working again!  then after 2 days it stopped.  This is maddening!  any suggestions???

    I have an iPhone 4S.

    John
