Apr 20, 2014 10:02 AM in response to Elkothby Perry Gershon,Just checked again. Connected to internet and I tested by watching youtube content. Still able to stream my TV shows afterwards. Media icons at top have my unwatched content from iTunes on my system. TV shows on Apple iTunes store not displaying (so no top TV shows). Movies similar but icons for iTunes Store shows display, but selecting leads to "cannot connect to iTunes store" message.
To summarize, my Apple TV works fine for watching contenta lready on my iTunes machine (streamed from home network, not on Apple TV itself) but it cannot access the Apple iTunes Store at all. Connected to internet through router. Using Optimum Online, no special equipment or content provider.

Apr 20, 2014 10:09 AM in response to IrvBdby Tyke999,If something has killed the 1st generation machines then Apple will probably offer some sort of trade-in for a latest generation machine.

Apr 20, 2014 10:10 AM in response to Perry Gershonby capecodmama,That might be why we are having less issues. I am able to play radio stations via a playlist that I created in my itunes library that was then synced with the ATV.

Apr 20, 2014 10:11 AM in response to IrvBdby HalGeek,I too am having problems with iTunes 11.1.5 & 1st Gen Apple TV -- so much so that it's rendered many functions of my Apple TV useless. I can access my own libraries, both on the drive and via streaming, but it's extremely balky, moving very, very slowly from one selected screen to the next and often not displaying my movies or music at the top. I can stream via my iPhone with my jailbroken device, ut I cannot access the iTunes store at all. Apple needs to fix this. If they don't, they are obviously trying to force folks to move onto another generation of Apple TV, which is unfortunate considering the newer models don't have a hard drive.

Apr 20, 2014 10:21 AM in response to capecodmamaby Perry Gershon,What version of iTunes are you using? And what OS is it running on? Still wonder if recent iTunes 11.1.5 caused problems.

Apr 20, 2014 11:07 AM in response to IrvBdby PFL1978,Im from the UK and having the same problem. Thought it was my ATV 1st Gen. unit at first as I percused it when it was first reliesed. However as everyone has discussed it have gone through the problem solving issues with no luck -
1, powered down unit and powered back up.
2, restored to factory settings
3, removed all files from ATV and re-synced 1 file at a time.
I could go on but you get the picture. I do not want to get a Gen 3, or Gen 4 when it comes out as a like the hard drive in the ATV 1 which is not in any other ATV gens.
What are Apple playing at. I dont care how old my unit is it still works if apple dont screw it up from there end.

Apr 20, 2014 11:16 AM in response to IrvBdby HalGeek,MacRumors says that all 1st Gen ATVs worldwide started having these problems on April 17 and that it's an internal Apple iTunes issue, not something related to 11.1.5. See http://www.macrumors.com/2014/04/20/apple-tvs-stop-working/

Apr 20, 2014 12:24 PM in response to IrvBdby mloit,The plot thickens... one of my posts was deleted where I cordially invited one of the community support reps to join this thread and provide some insight. It appears all they want to do is provide the already known to be useless "trouble shooting tips"

Apr 20, 2014 12:49 PM in response to Perry Gershonby Mitchys,Hey Perry,
Interesting that yours is working - are you sure your ATV is Gen 1?
Can someone like GeorgeVargas chime in and ask what settings, such as DNS, would be helpful for you to post for us? There may be a combo of things like iTunes version and what DNS our ATV's are looking at that are the prob. I don't know enough about IT to know if this would even work.
Regards,
Mitchys
