Where exactly does it say that? All I see is this in the 7.1 update "FaceTime call notifications are automatically cleared when you answer a call on another device". Dont see exactly what youve said about it not being supported on ios 6.

    @anonymous20140101

I got this response from Apple in a private message as response to a bug report (https://bugreport.apple.com)

Skype has now jumped to #9 in top free app downloads in the app store, clear sign that the issue is far more widespread than some people think. And for those who are suggesting an update to iOS 7, that is not a real fix for 11% of Apple users (millions of people by the way) who don't want to update their devices. If Apple decides to pull the plug on iOS 6 users (we don't know yet by the way since most comments on this thread are speculation by users) that will sink them to a new low in the eyes of many unsatisfied users. Facetime or not, there is absolutely no way I or anyone in our family is going to update to that horrendous looking iOS 7, sorry Mr. Ives you can keep that on your own devices! I stopped buying Apple products after iOS 7 and I don't think I will ever buy another one unless Steve comes back from the dead to rescue this sinking ship for a 2nd time!

If you don't want to update your devices, there are few alternatives available in the app store, give them a try, they may not have the feel of FaceTime, but is better than updating your entire operating system for just one app. You will end up regretting it!

    Some options:

    - Skype

    - ooVoo

    - Tango

    - Text Me!

    - Hangouts by Google

Same issue here, all FaceTime calls to iOS 6.1.x fail, have tried over the last 3 days and all have failed.

I have no issue calling iOS 7.x phones via FaceTime.

Hardware is an iPad 2 and a iPhone 4 (both crawl on iOS 7).

@xFengshen: There is no statement from Apple nor from me that FT is no longer supported on iOS6

Only thing I know is that it doesn't work anymore and that Apple's only feedback so far has been to upgrade all devices to iOS7.1 in order to get it working (yours and those of your family/friends...).

My two cents... I'm in Vegas, Mom's in Montreal. We've been using Facetime almost daily for a few years now. Since wednesday april 16, Facetime stopped working between my mom's Macbook Pro 2010 on Mavericks 10.9.1 and my iPhone 5S on iOS 7.1. Display says "connecting" forever until we hang up. Then the call appears as "missed". Other than that my Facetime works normally between iOS 7 devices. In the mean time, Skype with mom...

I could not get an official word from the apple reps I spoke to, but was told repeatedly on the phone today that the problem was introduced when server engineer's changed something and the only fix they are willing to put out is in the latest version of iOS7. There will be no fix (as far as he has been told) for older versions of iOS, including iOS 6 and iOS 5.

As much as I hate to do it, I will be using skype or google hangouts for future video calls. If apple would allow me to go back to iOS 6 if iOS 7 runs horribly on my old iPad, I would give the fix a try. But since they do not, I am not upgrading.

Unless this somehow makes the evening news and gets major press, I dont see apple making a fix for us iOS 6 users.

Hey folks I guess it is really clever from Apple to let everyone post in this forum. Apple doesn't need to give a f.... because nobody will ever hear about the problems outside of this forum. This issue hasn't been solved since more than one week now. Let's go to the Apple Facebook and mak a recension, like I allready did. Maybe with more publicity the hardworking people at Apple will wake up and fix this issue.

I meanwhile got  an reply to the bug report I posted but the bug report is under NDA.

I've asked when/if they will make anything public and am wating for an answer.

Although I'm disapointed that it might very well never get fixed, I'm even more disapointed that there has been no public communication from Apple on this. Just turning of the service the day before Easter doesn not establish trust. And lost trust is not easy to win back..

I have not been able to use Facetime since last Thursday, April 17, 2014. We tried all the devices, MacBook, iPad, iphone, in ios 7.1.1. , but in vain. I personally think this is an issue at Apple's server. Just waiting for Apple to fix it as soon as possible. If anyone find that the service is restored, please post it here. I am getting tired of trying it without any success everyday. Thanks!

I went to the Apple Inc. FaceBook page and made a comment about FaceTime. How do we get the press involved?
