Q: Can I update my Mid 2009 Macbook Pro to allow Airplay Mirroring?

Can I update my Mid 2009 MacBook Pro to support Airplay Mirroring?  I am running Mavericks, and have a 2nd generation Apple TV all on the same network.  I know you have to have a 2011 MacBook but can I upgrade a component instead of buying a new computer?

iMac, powerbook G4, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

As clearly stated in the article from which the thread was started, your computer does not meet the requirements for AirPlay mirroring.  If that's a feature you want, buy a new(er) computer that does meet the requirements.

airplay works by the video card (gpu) support in hardware making what is shown on your screen into a H.264 video stream and sending it across the the network to be displayed on the reciever

your video card does not support that because it's older

there is a program called airparrot who does it not by using the video card but by using the cpu (central proccessing unit) but that can cause performance issues and the cpu overhead is bigger
