Q: Mavericks 10.9.2 is destructive
Hello fellow Mac users (soon to be ex Mac users ??),
Your contributors' many comments about usability, stability, data safety issues etc. under Mavericks OS X struck deep chords with me.
I have had severe problems since installing (forced to by Apple's OS X dictums) Mavericks 10.9.2. The data loss I have suffered after TWICE, having had to erase Mac HD/ reinstall OS X 10.9.2 'clean’ installs/non Apple software reinstallations (with serial numbers stored in an 'Apache Open Office' spreadsheet file, now irretrievably lost) is incalculable.
Today I was using non Apple software (licences purchased) and watched (stunned) as, in the background, Mavericks deleted innumerable files and folders from the Desktop, all of its OWN volition.
The desktop image I had chosen vanished and reverted to an OS X 10.9.2 default image ( huge surf waves breaking). When I tried to REselect the image I had chosen from a folder on the Desktop, all those images had vanished while the already created, now empty folder remained. Later, as I was working in the same session, even that imposed desktop image vanished to be replaced by a mid blue, plain background.
Folders and content of folders are disappearing (today and many times previously) as I watched them vanish.
FURTHER, the Time Machine back ups I had set the Time Machine preferences to carry out on 24 April 2014 are merely MIRROR images of TODAY's mutilated Mac HD's System and whatever files still remain. Under Mavericks 10.9.2, even Time Machine does not work!
Running 'Disk Utility/Repair Disk Permissions' THEN 'Verify Disk Permissions' showed that virtually NO REPAIRS had been made, despite Apple's Disk Utility's assurances that they had been made.
I attach the report of today's Mac HD Repair then Verify actions reports as they presented today:-

My non Apple software is AGAIN no longer recognised and hence unusable. As I no longer have the file where their serial numbers, purchase dates etc. were recorded (for just such an eventuality), how can I contact suppliers and assure them of my bona fides?? My iMac21.5 inch is virtually unusable.
What can we (betrayed ?) loyal Mac OS X users do in these seemingly insurmountable circumstances. Apple advisors repeatedly claim that they have never encountered problems such I have been encountering since March 2014. Has anyone experienced a real solution to the myriad problems besetting so many of us, please?
Hoping some resolution can be found, I am
Yours faithfully, PaulRanger1.
P.S. My password to access this hallowed forum vanished, along with all my software licence serial numbers, etc. At least my memory seems to be working.
