I am not sure I have all of the disks that are needed. Is there a way to know which disks i need or can i erase without needing to re install the disks.

Photos for MacYou need the 10.6.x install disc, it will be clearly labled. If you still can't locate it we would need to know what version of OS X was on the machine when it was originally purchased to give you accurate instructions on how to move forward.

Photos for MacWhere did the Snow Leopard Disc 10.6.x come from? I suspect if the machine is a 2008 machine it came with Leopard 10.5.x. If the SL disc you have will not work then makes me think it's from another Mac which will not work and is not a SL Upgrade DVD. If that is correct then you will need to use the Leopard install disc and install that way, you can also haul the thing down to an Apple Store or AASP and they can help you wipe it clean.
