Sometimes safe boot also helps.

Apr 30, 2014 10:43 AM in response to Tony Braveby léonie,Now when I open app it says processing and the app hangs up.
You have probably imported an image or video that cannot be processed. You'll need to identify that image and delete it from the library. Does the "processing2 show which image is being processed?
The next time you open Aperture, hold down the Shift key, while launching the application. This will defer the generation of previews and give you a chance to export your last import to a folder on the Desktop and to delete these photos and videos from your library.
Then repair your Aperture library, using the First Aid Tools (see: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual). This will be necessary, after continually force quitting.
Now try to reimport your removed photos, but not all at once. Check the photos in Preview, if tehy can be read, before you import them.

Have you first openend Aperture with the SHIFT-key held down to remove the last import? Something in your library probably can probably not be processed and needs first to be removed, before you can repair the library.

Apr 30, 2014 12:45 PM in response to Tony Braveby léonie,Tony,
but you could launch Aperture with the SHIFT-key held down? That means, that the problem is caused by media in your library that cannot be processed. In that case, keep the Activity Window open, to see, what is currently processed and makes Aperture hang. See my User Tip:
How to Screen an Aperture Library for Corrupted Image Files or Videos
