Q: What does Apple do with the money stranded in iTunes accounts when kids like my son forget passwords and never bothered to set up security questions?  My son feels ripped off (and so do I)...

Just wondering what happens to all the money from iTunes/Mac App store accounts for which people have forgotten passwords and cannot recover them (no recovery code, no security questions set up).  Seems so unfair for my teenaged son to lose his hard-earned money to Apple!  And don't tell me he learned any lessons from this because he didn't...

    Hi presto,

I'm afraid you are misinformed. You cannot set up an Apple ID without setting up either Security Questions or setting up 2-Step verification.

It sounds like your son forgot both his password and his Security Questions. As long as he knows his Apple ID, he can contact iTunes Support to get his Security Questions reset:

    ACCOUNT SECURITY CONTACT NUMBERS

If he has any other i-devices he may want to look into 2-step Verification which does away with the need to remember security questions:

    TWO STEP VERIFICATION

This is what I use now, and I can tell you, it's a lot easier than trying to remember the street my first elementary school was on!

    Best of luck,
