May 2, 2014 3:01 PM in response to drpauleyby dianeoforegon,First you need to backup all your data. I suggest a clone backup since it's bootable and you can easily revert if needed. Run Time Macine if you prefer to restore from Time Machine.
Both of these applications can be used to create a clone.

2) You can boot from your clone and select to erase your internal drive using Disk Utility. You would need to download Mavericks from the Mac App Store (MAS).
2) Boot from Recovery drive. Hold down Command R when restarting.
- Open Disk Utility and select to Erase your internal drive.
- Select to Reinstall OS X.
