Q: Airport Extreme help needed

I just bought an Airport Extreme wireless router.  I was told I could attach an external hard drive to the router and use it with my laptop (HP with Windows 7).  I cannot figure out how to find the drive after I hooked it up.  Thanks for your help!!

The hard disk should be formatted Mac OS. HFS+.. but FAT32 will also work.. but if the drive is large you cannot format it properly on windows.

The fact that the drive is formatted HFS+ is no problem.. and there are some utilities that do allow it on a PC but much easier to use your Mac or invite a friend with a Mac to do the format for you.

Load the airport utility for windows on to the computer.. That loads some useful tools, bonjour for windows and a disk access agent.

It might pop up immediately.. if not in windows explorer just type the address in the address bar.

    \\AEname or \\AEIPaddress

So for example if the AE IP is 10.0.1.1 which is default.. then \\10.0.1.1

And the password by default is public.. use any username you like.. admin for example.
