Q: How to reinstall OSX Mavericks without Losing data?

Hello my Mid-2012 13 inch Dual core i7, 8gb ram, 750 gb harddrive mac book pro running Mavericks with the latest updates runs fine, but it has trouble coming back on after it dies after i plug the cord in a hit the power button to wake it up, get a black screen that freezes for 30 seconds and all is good. When i log into my account, it takes about 2minutes for my Dock to show up, 20 shortcut icons on the deskop, and my menu bar to show up. no login items are tuned on at all. if i try to clik something before everthing shows up i get the spinning wheel for about five seconds I dont think that such a high powerd machien should take that long to log on and get moving. So i am wondering how can i reintall mavericks without losing data ans personal settings. Even though i have time machine set up i dont want to lose anything. And do you think a reinstall with help this problem Thank for reading this and thanks if you supplied and answer.

Nothing less than erasing your Mac and rebuilding it from the ground up will undo the effects of having used CleanMyMac...

A while back I had made the mistake of installing CleanMyMac and complete erasure was the only thing that completely removed CMM's ill effects.  I gotta tell you, that was less fun than root canal!

What I did was essentially identical, but I started with a brand new Mavericks installation on a brand new Mac containing nothing more than one minimally configured User account, to replicate an unmodified system as close as practicable. That's what I do to evaluate the performance effects of every so-called "cleaning" or "anti-virus" utility.

When I was finished testing, and determined CMM's uninstaller did not work as they claim, I reinstalled OS X. Of course that doesn't help either, so I erased the volume completely so as to begin anew. In the OP's position I would accept nothing less than that.

Certain app uninstallers are completely effective, even if the app itself is complete garbage. That's a subject for another day.

EtreCheck is a very useful data collection tool, but it is not intended to serve as an exhaustive diagnostic utility, and it is insufficient to ensure the reversal of all CleanMyMac's effects.

I already stated my recommendations, and have nothing more to add. Other software-related problems may exist that erasing your Mac will render moot.

Thanks for all your help. I dont have any time to reinstall but after i removed the files as stated above in my last post, i reapire presmissions and rearted. Boot time alot faster, and when i went into activity moniter i am now using 3.50 gb of the aviable 8gb campled to before as it was 5.50 Gb out of the 8gb aviable. So i must have done something right.

Everyone else responded to you before me, but since everyone told you to uninstall CleanMyMac 2 and since you have been using this for some time which is REALLY, REALLY bad, I will add my own commentary about just how bad these types of apps are for your Mac.

Apps  like MacKeeper or any other maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.

Plus, these type of apps aren't really necessary. They really aren't.

There are manual methods to clear off unnecessary data off of your Mac that are safer and you have complete control over your Mac and not just leave a piece of auto cleaning software in charge of clearing off data off of your Mac.

These types of apps potential of causing OS X issues outweighs the implied good and benefits these types of hard drive or memory "cleaning" apps are written to do. Plus, the software companies  that write these apps make it hard to easily uninstall these apps if something DOES go wrong and these apps work in a way where you have no recovery or revert function to return your Mac back to its former, working state in the event something does go wrong.

It is best to never, EVER download and install these types of apps.

The risk to your system and data is too great a risk!

If this has been on your system for awhile and you have been using this app regularly, then the possibilty does exist that CleanMyMac has done damage or corruption of your OS X system without you knowing it.

That's an encouraging sign and I agree you're on the right track.

I can only augment what has already been stated by MichelPM and others with the following comment: The point is not that these apps are "cleaning" too effectively or too deeply or whatever else their ostensibly claim to do. That is an ancillary function of their true purpose, which is to take your money. That is the only thing they do well, and CleanMyMac is just one example. If using them results in your Mac becoming corrupted, or its performance suffers, if priceless data become irretrievably lost, or if you simply waste your time with them, that's completely irrelevant.
