Q: I cannot see my photos in Aperture

All,

I have rebuilt my 670,000 image library through Aperture suggestion (popup window), and now all of my files after the rebuild are in the rejected foler.  In addition, I cannot see any of my files in the browser or the viewer.  All of my projects are there, with file counts, albums, etc. But no matter which project I select or window I use, I cannot see any photos.  All of the filtration options are set correctly, so it isn't that.  I can see and have access to all of the images in the package contects.  I have repaired permission, repaired the library, trashed the .plist and application support folders.  I have NOT created a new library as of yet.  Just wondering if anyone has any ideas that might help.

MacBook Pro Retina, 16 GB RAM, Aperutre 3.5.1

    Just a few questions -

    rejected folder

Is this really the "rejected" smart album? Do you see a "✕" in the lower right corner of the thumbnails? And a high item count beside the "Rejected" album?

Or did you mean a "Recovered" album?

If it is really a "Rejected" album, try if increasing the ratings of some images will make them visible again.  If all of your images should now be  in a "Recovered" album, it will be cumbersome to restore them to their proper projects. In that case it would beeasier to restore the librry from the last backup.

Yes, it is the built-in rejected smart album with 661,621 files in it.  All of them are "invisible" in both this smart album, all projects, etc.  Since i cannot "see" the thumbnails, I cannot change the ratings of any of the files.  I have been able to export a small project with 41 files in it.  I cann open up that library independently and "see" all of those files, complete with tags, keywords, and ratings.  I just cannot alter any images in the large library as they are not visible.

Check the Smart Settings of the "Rejected" album, as described in Frank Caggiano's User Tip:

See                     Images not appearing in browser, search filter is cleared

The Smart Settings should look like this:

Have you ever opened your library in iPhoto? If images have been hidden in iPhoto, there is now way to make them visible in Aperture. That can only be done by opening the library again in iPhoto.

Okay, I tried this, but the setting was as it should be.   Interestingly though, I no longer have ANY smart albums ( I had at least 100 before).  Though it didn't help, it certainly produced an unknow error.
