May 7, 2014 6:20 AM in response to FroggieGardnerby SilverSkyRat,OK, I think at this point, it will be a lot easier to make the boot disk on your computer. Where exactly on your mac is the "Install OS X Mavericks.app" located? I will write out the command with the exact syntax you need if you can tell me that.

May 7, 2014 6:28 AM in response to FroggieGardnerby SilverSkyRat,You said originally that you downloaded Mavericks and then copied it to a DVD. Do you still have the copy of Mavericks you downloaded? It will be called "Install OS X Mavericks.app"

May 7, 2014 6:38 AM in response to FroggieGardnerby SilverSkyRat,It sounds like you downloaded it from somewhere that is not the Mac App Store. Is this correct? There is no guarantee that, if you downloaded it from somewhere else, it may even work (or be legal).

May 7, 2014 7:04 AM in response to andyBall_ukby FroggieGardner,Is it? god knows what ive just found then ! and when i open it up it just says its a security update not mavericks.
Because it says OS X mountain lion is damaged do you think if i brought that (as its the newest isnt it?) that it will upload or not?
-
May 7, 2014 7:13 AM in response to FroggieGardnerby SilverSkyRat,Well, mavericks is the newest; on your mac, you can download it by using the App Store app or get it by internet recovery on your bosses sick laptop as per andyBall_uk's good advice Either way, you're in for a big download of 5.3GB If you download it and make the bootable USB drive, you won't have to download it again.

May 7, 2014 7:19 AM in response to FroggieGardnerby andyBall_uk,the Mountain Lion installer on your internal drive's Recovery partition may well be damaged... Internet Recovery doesn't use that; although your computer may not be able to use IR.
Do check the serial # & model as suggested earlier. It should make your options clearer.
Don't pay for Mavericks or any update.
