Q: mac osx 10.9 Mavericks wifi issue

Ok so Wifi is really starting to annoy now....

I have a 2013 Mac Air (about 1 month old). I upgraded to mavericks and now EVERYTIME the machine goes to sleep, i close the lid, whatever the wifi connection is shut down and on logging in again, the wifi doesn't connect. I have to manually turn off wifi and then turn on again before selecting my network (and usually needs 2 attempts).

This is unacceptable.

Does anybody else suffer from this issue? any ideas on how to fix it (other than reverting back to MLion - if that's even possible)

Thanks in advance for any responses

Kind Regards

I agree with Harvey. I've never used BT on my MBP and I only started getting this problem after upgrading to Mavericks. I've tried various things with limited success. However, a couple of things have worked for me that might work for others:

    1. Open a Terminal window. Type the command 'caffeinate' and hit return. This command will prevent your mac from entering sleep.

    2. Go to Network Preferences, Advanced and check the box that says "Require Administrator authorization to Turn WIFI on or off".

So far this has prevented my WIFI connection from dropping.

    PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

Was in contact with Apple Support Chat (amazing support as usual).

Resetting the System Management Controller solved my WLAN issue:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US

Now if my Mac comes back from sleep, WLAN is immediately available and stable, as it was with Mountain Lion. Great!!

If resetting the SMC does not help, the second option is to reset the PRAM

    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222?viewlocale=en_US

    regards

    Roger"

    The first option.

    THANK YOU!!!!!

    sorry for my English

I have this exact problem from the 10.9.2 but not when you sleep, but always, internet slow or hangs. try everything, even the bluetooth but does not come out there.

    Hi Javier Fracchia,

I wonder if you have tried the "ping" workaround posted both in this thread and over here:

Sounds like a good thing to try.

As with you, I only seem to have had the issues with Mavericks.

So far, it's been pretty frustrating, going through these steps (multiple times):

    • SMC reset
    • PRAM reset
    • Deleting Airport/WiFi preferences
    • Deleting Keychain data
    • Reparing disk permissions
    • Checking for all the latest MacOS updates
    • Resetting the router
    • Running Apple's hardware test on my MBP

So far, all diagnostics indicate the hardware is OK, but connection can be something else. Will see what else crops up in finding a solution to this. Hopefully Apple will be releasing a patch soon.

I also had this issue since upgrading to 10.9.2.   The fix that worked for me was to delete an entry in the bluetooth prefs plist.   You can do it easily in the Terminal by using the following command.

    sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth LastA2DPDevice

    Hello,

I have got exactly the same problem. Despite the fact that my ipad and iphone immediately reconnect to my network my macbook doesn't. I tried all the different suggestions to solve the problem without success. I am totally desperate and think it is a system failure which even ins't solved by reinstalling Mavericks. Apple should deal with this problem.

    Regards

    Arwed

This cleared up instantly when I removed my corrupted bluetooth file

    I don't see this in @Kaufmans's list

Use Finder to find the file     YourHardDriveName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist

    Blow it away.

    Restart.....

My keyboard and tracpad came right back like they were never gone.

I don't know about third party stuff.

I had paired an audio thing at some point which may have contributed, but I have not re-paired it to test because I don't care about it anymore.  I have since paired a headset with no issues.

Worst thing is you will have to pair stuff again but that will probably take less time than me typing this mail.

My understanding is the file gets corrupted somehow.

I guess I should add that the os automatically will recreate this file when it restarts.

If you want to be conservative you could make a copy and save it somewhere.

But then you are running Time Machine... N'est ce pas?

    good Luck

I delete it but I did not probe results, I see that the vast majority if, I'll try again.

What I do notice is that when I use the bluetooth keyboard and mouse, I have no problems
