Q: All My Files no longer in Finder

Hi,

While backing up my system, I transferred "All My Files" from the Finder to the external drive. I thought it would copy the "All My Files" tab to the ED and simultaneoulsy keep the original in the Finder, but it is not the case.

Can anyone explain to me how I get "All My Files" on my HD and ED at the same token?

I cannot find "All My Files" on the ED. I have not lost any files, but I want "All My Files" on both drives.

Thank you for your time and support.

Kind regards,

Brigitte.

You can add All My Files to the Finder sidebar in Finder Preferences. Dragging items out of the sidebar will just delete them, not move them.

Note that All My Files is just a Smart Folder that returns a Spotlight query of ... all your files.

    Hi

As has been said the item in the Finder that says "All My Files" is actually a pre-made Smart folder.

As you can see in this Pic I have the Path Bar showing at the bottom of the window.

Whilst I started in "All My Files" It is actually tell me where the file is in iTunes (or the Music Folder that holds it)

You would need to copy the Whole of the contents of the Little House iCon (Your Stuff) to the External Hard Drive.

This still not appear as a Smart Folder or in the current one's contents as an external drive will not be included in the "search".

    Hi Ben,

    Thank you for your response.

I found and fixed the error. While dragging and dropping the "All My Files" folder from Finder to the external drive, the check box was automatically unselected. The massive brainer was such a simple action. I reticked the check box and all is well.

By the way, are you an Apple developer or AppleScript expert? I have 12 ideas to create software that will make office admins tasks so much easier. I can execute 50% of what I want done, but I will need a real deal back end dev to seal the apps. If this is you or you know of someone, please ask them to contact me.
