Q: Taking ages to update Mavericks

Just update mavericks on my macbook pro (as recommended by a apple pop-up) and it is taking ages currently 2 hours. There is a progress bar which is nearly complete but it hasn't chaged for 30 mins!! It claims to be 'installing software update'.

Is this usual to take so long and if not how can i get out of it??

any help gratefully received........

MacBook Pro, iOS 7.1.1

My Mavericks download took over 4 hours.

    Be patient.

I kept checking download, and hadnt moved more than 200mb in 3 hrs, so gave up checking left it overnight, and all was ready for installation in the morning, so still dont know how long it actually took - but frustrating as does look as though nothing is happening, and people were reporting times of 40mins or max 5 hrs. Time estimates on mine was varying from 12hrs to 1 day!...you will get there, just stop checking it will drive you crazy

If you haven't run the installer yet, you make want to make a copy of it first as it self-deletes on successful installation. Might save you another monster download in the future.
