Oct 3, 2013 2:33 PM in response to Keith3236by sheila_m.,★HelpfulHello Keith,
Congratulations on your new iPhone 5s! I would be concerned too if my iPhone shut off unexpectedly and would not power on. I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this. I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
- Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
- Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
- Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
- After at least 15 minutes, if:
- The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen
. Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service. - The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
- Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
- The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen
- If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
- If the display turns on, go to step 4.
- If the display remains black, go to next step.
- Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
- If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

Feb 27, 2014 11:25 AM in response to Keith3236by rizzo14,Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for the information. I held down the power button and the home button for about 45 seconds and the phone started up. When it came bak on it said the power was at 85%. I did just update the software yesterday. I have never had a problem like this before and have had an iphone for years.

Mar 1, 2014 1:23 AM in response to rizzo14by TeadyBear2013,Hi Everyone,
I just want to tell about my problem with an expected shut down a few minutes ago.
Actually I got panicked for seconds then I logged on to here to search for a solution then I did the following:
I held down the power button along with home one for about ten seconds then it went back on.
This is the first time I encountered such issue taking into account one thing that I just updated my iPhone 5C to the latest iOS 7.0.6 two days ago so now the question is : does this problem has something to do with this latest iOS update?
Thanks

Mar 1, 2014 1:31 AM in response to TeadyBear2013by TeadyBear2013,We'll one more thing to add that after the new update I went to charge my iphone and a weird thing I found that battery percentage was 100 % but when I unplugged the charger battery percentage was reading 97% then I left it for more half an hour but same result.
Any idea about this issue and my above posted reply regarding unexpected shutdown ?
Is there a relation with the new iOS update ?
Thanks

Apr 21, 2014 12:11 AM in response to Shaik Omermakkiby CelisseFromOC,OMG, JUST had my 5s randomly shut off about 20 minutes ago!! I was panicing so bad to the point of tears because I didn't know what was going on; it doesn't have damage, the battery had just been fully charged & the software is up to date. Hopped online, thank god I found this post! It took about 6-7 seconds to power on. The Apple symbol showed up for about a minute then the homescreen showed up. Like nothing happened, but this still makes me nervous as to why because I've had the phone since mid January of this year, nothing like this has ever happened! Thanks Shaik for the help
