That file is a Windows installation file, nothing to do with OSX at all.
It won't work. (Unless you are planning on installing Windows)
thought you were dipping anyway
I pop in to see how much worse this is getting from time to time.

No, and it came from you installing it. It is an optional (downloadable) set of tools for use with OSX (I have no idea which version you downloaded however)

May 9, 2014 4:01 AM in response to FroggieGardnerby SilverSkyRat,Froggie, while you're waiting g for the download to finish, please verify on this page:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842
that the laptop you will be installing onto is supported for mavericks. I asked you for this on the previous page of the discussion but as you said, it was a long night, so I'm just making sure ok?

May 9, 2014 4:40 AM in response to FroggieGardnerby Csound1,Copy that file to an 8GB or larger external drive formatted as MacOS Extended (Journaled). Leave the original where it is for now.
When are you going to try to install? and is there data on the destination machine that you need to keep?

May 9, 2014 5:08 AM in response to FroggieGardnerby SilverSkyRat,Froggie, now that you have the "Install OS X Mavericks.app" file and before you can install it on the laptop, you need to create the bootable USB stick. It is that which will, when plugged into the laptop, be able to install Mavericks. There's no point trying until we do that, and when you're ready to give that a go, let me know

May 12, 2014 6:21 AM in response to SilverSkyRatby FroggieGardner,Afternoon SilverSky Rat,
I got Mavericks onto the Macbook Pro, without paying for Snowleopard
In the end one of my colleagues came in and took the laptop off and sorted it themselves so I am not too sure as to what they did to it.
Thank you so much for your help
