Q: Twain Sane Interface for Mac O SX

I installed the libusb.pkg, sane-backends.pkg and TWAIN-SANE-Interface.pkg on my IMac because I could not get my Canon CanoScan Lide 35 to work injh Mavericks with Image Capture. I then discovered that there are no drivers available from Canon that actually allow Image Capture to work my scanner and have ordered a new Epson XP-312 printer/scanner. What I would like help with is whether it is OK to leave the packages that I installed on my computer or, whether I have to find them and remove them?

Better to remove drivers you are not using as they can generate kernel panics and disable your Mac.

Drivers are not required for using Image Capture.

    Hi Carolyn

I am not sure if these packages were drivers or not?  My scanner always worked with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then when I installed Mavericks it no longer functioned through Image Capture because there are no software updates for Mavericks for my model of scanner.

Although you say that Image Capture does not use drivers I could still use the scanner through the Canon Toolbox on my iMac but Cannon and Apple Support both said that my scanner would not work through Image Capture in Mavericks because there were no software updates available from Canon to facillitate that model.

So, I need to establish whether the packages ( I described in first post)  I installed are drivers and, if so how I go about removing them?

    Check thsese folders:

    ~/Library/Printers

    and /Library/Printers

You can also try a Spotlight search.

There is no result in a search in Libray or in Spotlight. Mind you I do not have a wavy line on my keyboard is it the same as - ?

The wavy line is referred to as a the Tilde character ~ which points to your home folder.

Ok. Thanks. I found wavy line just before you replied but still no result in searches.

Could it be that the three packages that I mentioned in my first post in this thread are actually already on a Mac and that I have just overwritten them onto the existing ones?
