Q: just got a new phone. How do i get my latest icloud backup to transfer to the new phone?

trying to get my Icloud backup onto my new Iphone? What am I missing? I thought it would transfer over automatically.

No, it isn't automatic. You have to erase the phone and choose to restore from your iCloud backup in the initial setup screens. Follow this article to restore your backup: https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521.
