Canon has not released a scanner driver for the MP810 since 10.7. There is a chance it will work on 10.9 so here is a link to that scanner driver.

Note that it is not digitally signed so Gatekeeper will block its installation by default. To get past Gatekeeper, you can right-click (or hold down Control and then click on the installer). A pop-up window will appear. Click on Open. You will then have the option to install the file.

With the scanner driver installed you will then need a scanning application. Canon has their scanning application called MP Navigator, which was also last updated for 10.7. So you can use the procedure above to install the application. Once it has installed you can then open it and see if you can scan from the MP810.

    Ceduna-

Pahu - Thanks - have downloaded the Canon Drivers many times in past month - still doesn't scan.

Have downloaded the MP Navigator with similiar results. On clicking on the Application or its icon a screen opens (as of old) but after 10 or so seconds it closes and a message comes telling me that Apple has been informed and I should restart. So I restart with the same results. ScanGear doesn't help either.

    Ohter ideas welcome.

    Hi ..

There's an alternative for scanning ...

Launch Image Capture located in your Applications folder.

Connect the scanner to your Mac whether Wi-Fi or USB.

Click the very small black box bottom left side of the Image Capture window.

You'll see this pop up menu:   Connecting this (device) opens:

You can select a default app to scan (Image Capture) and select a folder from the Import To pop up menu on the right to save scanned files to.

If you need help with the Image Capture software, click Help from the Image Capture menu bar.

Not for this model Carolyn. Canon has stopped supplying an ICA driver to Apple for the MP810.

So what application have you tried using? You cannot use Image Capture because there is no supporting scanner driver (ICA). So you would need to use a TWAIN based scanning application.

Open Finder and navigate to Applications. You should see a Canon Utilities folder and inside of this folder will be MP Navigator. Trash this application and then empty the Trash. Restart the Mac and then try installing the MP Navigator that I linked to above. Does this now install?

Thanks Carolyn but Image Capture would not recognise the MP810 after many tries.

Panu - followed your instructions carefully and again the MP810 was not able to scan. I could print from the MacBook. Here is a screen shot of the MP810 after an attempt to scan. More ideas please.

    Hi Ceduna,

Sorry but the screen shot did not upload correctly. So what happens when you try to use MP Navigator? Is it behaving the same as it was before?

If it is not, then are you able to open MP Navigator > Preferences and check that the MP810 is set as the scanner.
