Q: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT

I've got a good news for Macbook Pro / Air owners: a new multitouch trackpad driver for Windows 7 is out.

This driver (codenamed 'Trackpad++') neither contains, nor modifies the original Apple code.
However, it relies on Apple drivers stack for raw hardware access, that's why Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first.

Features of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 3.1 driver):

1. Improved pointer ballistics (pointer movement can be very slow or very fast, depending on the finger speed);

2. Dramatically improved two-finger scrolling experience: Mac OS X-similar (accelerated) scrolling model implemented;

3. Elimination of the most annoying Windows issue of Apple Multitouch Trackpad, i.e. false detection of drag'n'drop actions;

4. Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the Trackpad settings.

Supported Macbook Pro generations: Early 2008, Late 2008, Early 2009, Mid 2009;
Supported Macbook Air generations: all generations;
Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit (Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first).

You may visit http://trackpad.powerplan7.com for details.

Just by the way: there was an extensive beta-testing phase, and a lot of volunteers have tried Trackpad++ already, so I can assure You that the driver is rock-stable.

P.S. I wrote this driver. My another project is Power Plan Assistant - a popular utility for Boot Camp-enabled Macbook Pro and Air notebooks.

Cheers, and enjoy Trackpad++, something Apple definitely have had to implement a while ago... but I know and You know - it never would...

    @linkthe2nd: Thank you very much for willing to support the project. If you do not need the Power Plan Assistant (for example, you do not care about the keyboard backlight issues in Boot Camp), you can uninstall it. Only the order of the initial installation (PPA -> T++) is important. But if you feel Power Plan Assistant is the useful and enjoyable tool, a separate donation is much appreciated. Thank you.

    I noticed on your site that the wireless trackpad isn't supported yet. If I installed drivers from here

    http://www.labnol.org/software/apple-magic-trackpad-with-windows/14158/

    would that assist in getting the drivers you need to get the wireless trackpad to work?

    @xtralives: Correct, the Trackpad++ driver is only for the built-in trackpad of the 'Boot Camped' Macbook Pro / Air. Sorry, but I do not have much experience using Magic Trackpad outside the Boot Camp (where it is supported automatically by Apple, although the mouse emulation is, unfortunately, featureless and even buggy). Trackpad++ for Magic Trackpad would be an ultimate solution, but so far I have not succeeded in porting the Trackpad++.

    @Vladimir: A pity Magic Trackpad isn't supported yet. I've given up using blueitooth trackpad with Bootcamp, too bad experience . Especially obvious when compared with Trackpad++ gesture richness for the internal trackpad. Anyways, just wanted to wish you Vladimir to achieve that amazing goal and create the Trackpad++ for Magic Trackpad. Thanks again for all of your hard work for us (otherwise forgotten ) Bootcampers!

    Is the ppl still mandatory to run tp++ on 64 bit wendoze? I don't like this in the ppl:

    I would gladly donate but this is not acceptable man!

    @plumer: Thank you for the note and for considering to support the project. Could you simply click 'I do not accept', then 'Next'. This way, only Power Plan Assistant is installed.  By the way: according to a VirusTotal report, 50 antiviruses of this planet confrim the PPA installer is clean... In my humble opinion there is nothing criminal in promoting other software, for as long as a choice is given, i.e. to install or not. And Power Plan Assistant's installer gives a user such choice. As for the PPA -> T++ chain, there are technical reasons to install in such order. T++ may work without PPA being installed first, but there will be side issues. So I highly recommend to proceed in the way how everything is coded, tested, and verified to function.

    Cheers,

    Vladimir

    Hey vlad!

    Just installed latest trackpad and powerplan on windows 7, mbp mid 2012.

    Horizontal scroll wont work at all and Im not using 2 fingers back/forward. Vertical scroll is flawless.

    Any ideas?

    Vlad,

    I tried installing the Touchpadd++ driver, and it seemed to work as designed, but I would like it to work a bit differently to be useful.  I want to be able to use standard 2-finger touch, then click for a right-click rather than the tap 2 fingers without tapping approach.  Is that possible with TP++?

    Really, I want to be able to enable pointer and scrolling acceleration, but not bother with 3,4,5 finger gestures.  I'd like it to ignore accidental movement.  I love the MBA, but my trackpad on my 4 year old MBP is just better (OSX and Windows).  Somehow it's better at differentiating between my thumb and pointer finger.  No idea why.

    Anyway, it's a nice start to a big problem, just not suited to me yet.  How actively are you developing it?

    Also, I'm not interested in the phone-home-once-a-week thing.  Can that be turned off?

    Thanks!

    Jeremy

    @timelover: Thank you for reporting. I could not verify the issue, though. "Works for me".

    @Jeremy Lee: Thank you for providing a feedback. I would start from addressing the last question: it is not a "phoning", but simply a request to update to a new weekly build. For donators, updating becomes voluntary. Although, I would still recommend to update at least once in 3-4 months, to make sure you have the recent features and enhancements.

    The next big feature will be reworking the scrolling engine again. A lot of issues there, and I never release the low-quality product to public, so no exact ETA can be given. And I will be definitelly adding new Macbooks, those not-yet-released 2014 MBA and rMBP updates (these may even have the absolutely new trackpad device according to some rumors!)

    Correct, there is no 2-finger secondary click in Trackpad++. However there is 2-finger tap, which is the same thing, just without a physical click (IMHO easier to perform and totally silent). Also, there is a legacy very-bottom-right corner secondary click with 1 finger, it can be enabled via Trackpad++ Control Module.

    According to a long-term feedback from many people, the gestures for 2/3/4 fingers are what the people look for, and Trackpad++ is the complete solution for bringing such the gestures to Boot Camp. No problems, I do understand, some people may simply not need the gestures. But trust me, for absolute majority the Trackpad++ is all about the gestures. Remove the gestures, and not that much of the unique functionality is left (only the accidental input filter and the different scrolling tweaks, actually). I mean, for very basic mouse-like features Trackpad++ is not really required, as the Boot Camp-native driver already serves as the simple 2-button-with-wheel mouse emulator.

    Whats the best way to handle my case then, Vlad?

    if you says it's working then something must have gone wrong on my end.

    Also, I've been noticing trackpad takes lots of time to load in comparison to other startup programs. Is that supposed to be happening or something wrong with mine as well?

    Vlad,

    Thanks for the quick response.  Really, all I want to do is to make the trackpad ignore accidental input.  For some reason, when in BootCamp, the cursor is VERY hard to control, even when using it as a pointer.  In OSX, it basically just ignores my thumb that is doing the clicking and pays attention to the index finger that is doing the moving.  In BootCamp, it's paying far too much attention to the thumb, making it difficult to click on the button that I'm hovering over!

    Also, while a 2 finger tap may be easier, it's also WAY too easy to do for my taste.  Touch with 2 fingers and click is way more secure to me.  I've always hated the one finger tap-to-click as well.

    Basically, I just want the BootCamp trackpad to act like the OSX one, without all of the gestures, but WITH proper acceleration features.  I'm sure they're useful to others, just not to me!

    Thanks anyway,

    Jeremy

    We want a OS X experience in Boot Camp, I there's a way to go..

    I hope Vlad will be able to do that in the next update.

    @timelover: Too long start time of the Trackpad++ Control Module is not the normal behavior. About scrolling: neither vertical, nor horizontal scroll logic has not been changed since February, so clearly the issue is at your side. But does horizontal scroll function at least in some applications? Also, please make sure to not run any mouse enhancement utils (like WizMouse, for example). And finally, check the Trackpad++ scroll setting named 'Respect Focus'. Please try to change it and observe the scroll behavior.

    It takes 10-15 seconds more than the other auto-run apps I have...

    The vertical scroll works perfectly fine. Back/Foorth with 2 fingers in browsers works too. It's just the horizontal scroll. I didn't have a chance to test the "respect focus" option as I tried to uninstall both powerplan and trackpad, which I failed to do.

    I downloaded the latest bootcamp stuff on the OSX side and as soon as I completely remove powerplan and trackpad, I'll repair bootcamp installation and then re-install your softwares.

    Now I just need to know how to thoroughly and completely remove all traces of them of Windows. I used RevoUnninstaller at first but It did not performed well. Can you assist me with that removal process?

    What are the exact steps  I must take and where to look for leftover, registry, etc.

    Thanks man, I hope I can fix this.
