Q: What happened to the "users" folder (mavericks 10.9.3)

I've recently updated to Mavericks 10.9.3 and can't find the "users" folder which contained my "shared" folder with all of our photos in it.

MacBook Pro (17-inch Late 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), HP Officejet Pro L7780

Give this a try to see if it makes the folder visible. It should:

    Invisible Users Folder

If you have updated to 10.9.3 you may have discovered that your /Users folder has disappeared from view. It’s unclear if this was intended as a safety precaution to prevent a thief from accessing your account or simply a bug introduced with this version. In any event it seems the solution is easy:

      1.  Open iCloud preferences, scroll down to the Find My Mac entry and uncheck the box.

      2.  Open Terminal in the Utilities folder. Paste the following command line into the

           Terminal window.

         sudo chflags nohidden /Users

Press RETURN. You will be prompted to enter your admin password. It will not be

         echoed to the screen.

In some cases you may need to restart the computer.

Worked and so does iMovie import now. But a restart kills it again. Definitely a bug Apple needs to address. For those with /Users hidden try iMovie import and see what I am seeing here.

    From this thread, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6224031?start=30&tstart=0

the problem is tied to Find My Mac. If you disable it, you can keep the settings which show the Users folder. If you re-enable Find My Mac, the folders disappear instantly.

Well even with FindMyMac disabled, /Users is not visible for me. Only the chflags works. Here's a screen shot of iMovie import when /Users is hidden. Notice the spinning icons under Favorites. And I don't like creating an alias to point to /Users - Apple shoud fix what's broken.

You have to change it after disabling Find My Mac. Then, it will stay visible through a restart. Re-enabling Find My Mac causes the folders to immediately disappear.

I did but no-go. After a reboot /Users is hidden again and FMM is disabled.

Odd. It worked for me, but I'll keep watching.

Yep me too. Odd that after I do a chflags and turn FMM back on, /Users is still visible. I hope Apple reads my feedback report.

Apple has now released iTunes 11.2.1.  It solves the issue.

Go to your desktop and click on Macintosh HD. Select the folder saying users and then press on your username. That should have all your files such as applications and more.
