May 15, 2014 7:03 PM in response to ConradWinchesterby ttppee,Same here, After upgrade to 10.9.3 nothing haas been changed, the refresh rate of Asus PB287 only 56Hz as same as Samsung does!
Under 10.9.2 you can choice the refresg rate to 60Hz, but now it's automatically down to 56Hz? but the tearing problem never change!
Very disappointing, I urge Apple should say or do something to solve this problem!

May 16, 2014 2:07 PM in response to ConradWinchesterby fung193,Apple has updated the 4k display support page.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6008
It clearly state Mac OS X 10.9.3 only support Single stream Transport (SST) at only 30Hz. SST is what Samsung monitor used.
It also state with list of monitors that support Multiple stream transport (MST), 60HZ can be used and supported.
I guess 4K monitor support is much more complicated than I originally thought.

May 16, 2014 3:10 PM in response to fung193by Alias808,Since Apple released 10.9.3 yesterday, the issue of whether the Samsung display is compatible is particularly important to address. The fact that Apple does not list it on the support page does not mean that it cannot support 60 Hz refresh rate using Displayport 1.2 on a MacPro (Late 2013)...but it sure would be nice to get a definite answer.

It does not state that they only support 30Hz over SST. It states that they only support 30Hz over SST for those monitors. All the monitors listed are only capabel of 30Hz with SST, so it would be impossible for them to run at 60Hz with SST.
The new monitors, which are not listed, are caopable of 60Hz over SST and don't even support MST. MST was a hack to get early 4K monitors working at 60Hz and it won't exist in the future when all monitors will be SST so apple had better get this sorted.
BTW DisplayPort 1.2 support 4K at 60Hz using SST so there is no reason why it should not work.
If I have just bought a very expensive machine that is entirely not future proof then I am completely dissapointed.

May 17, 2014 3:03 AM in response to digitalcolemanby jimfromarlington,The issue is summarized here. We’ll have to wait for Apple/AMD to update drivers or else settle for 30Hz HDMI. Although I’ve noticed that with some tasks that don’t take up the whole screen, I can use 60Hz DisplayPort without noticing the glitch too much.
But it works on Windows 8.1 via Boot Camp just fine (6-core Mac Pro with D500s), as well as on a dedicated Windows PC with a GTX 780Ti. It looks gorgeous; I’ll be quite concerned if Apple can’t get this working on their high-priced workstation.

May 18, 2014 12:11 PM in response to jimfromarlingtonby jacdan,Apple completely lost the ball on this one.. That the new Mac Pro does not support SST 4k/60Hz after 10.9.3 is not acceptable. It´s also not acceptable that they have not updated the HDMI 1.4 to 2.0 for HDMI 4K/60Hz support. As 1.4 and 2.0 are identical hardware wise, this should be as simple as update the firmware.
I know several users from reduser.net who have bought *several* 4k monitors, only to learn one by one that they are left out cold for 4k/60Hz. Apple appears to only support a very limited range of 4K displays with MST, which by itself is buggy and a "hack" to make 4K show up. SST should have been implemented from the get-go.
There are a lot of people who are incredibly frustrated about this, and feel the investment in nMP has been a waste as we are stuck on 4k/30hz with most monitors/tvs.
Apple has to fix this now. 10.9.3 was suppose to be the 4K update to settle things. It has done very little to add more support.

May 21, 2014 2:52 AM in response to digitalcolemanby ruipd,I have tested this monitor on a MacPro with the AMD FirePro D500 with the Samsung U28D590 4K monitor, and as far as I can see, with the 10.9.3 update it made the issue worse. Tearing area as reported by other users here is bigger, and I cannot get a feedback on what Hz or resolution is actually being displayed. Very disappointing. Tried with MacBook Pro Retina with the NVIDIA GT650M and it can only do 2560x1440. Scaling is rather awful.
-
May 21, 2014 4:33 AM in response to ruipdby ttppee,It is getting worse after upgrade to 10.9.3, take Asus for example, The tearing area is expand from 2-3 cm to 4-5 cm and the scaling Hz is down from 60Hz to 56Hz (You can find this information in Asus monitor menu, before you can see it's 60Hz from Apple Display menu, so the conclusion is 10.9.3 didn't improve the 4K display ability instead is make it even worse!

Jun 3, 2014 1:21 PM in response to digitalcolemanby Laseyman,Just got the monitor today, hence finding this thread researching same problem with displayport at UHD. I don't have any problem with HDMI though which I am glad about, I know it should work with Display port as a matter of principle but I thought I'd ask to see if that is the case for everyone else... and if they have encountered any problems with HDMI (apart from different colour profiles etc.)? Also, just to mention it incase that is an option for some people?!
Also, PIP I could get a stable display on the displayport input... probably because it is downscaled.
Here's another one hoping apple pull their thumb out.

Jun 3, 2014 1:24 PM in response to Laseymanby jimfromarlington,Yes, HDMI works fine, but it's capped at a 30Hz refresh rate, which is bad for anything motion related. If your primary use is productivity like Web browsing and photo editing, it'll likely be fine. But the lower refresh rate is definitely visible on gaming, animation, and video work.
I'll also note I've been told that the issue persists in OS X Yosemite, at least with the first developer preview, so no luck there.

Jun 3, 2014 1:25 PM in response to Laseymanby thehesiod,My understanding is that Apple doesn't (yet?) support HDMI 2.0 which would allow 60hz @ 4k, so if you're plugged in through HDMI it's running @ 30hz which shouldn't show the issue. The issue is with single stream through the displayport. I'm also dying for this issue to be resolved to get this monitor. This is with the U28D590 correct? How is it though HDMI? I heard the mouse can be laggy @ 30hz.
