Q: Compressor Making Files Bigger?

I recently cut a 30-sec teaser for a short film. I exported the teaser as a self-contained movie (350Mb). I then compressed the teaser for streaming using a preset that I created quite a long time ago -- the teaser came out to be 750Mb. Obviously something is not right.

A few months ago I used this same preset on a 30-sec commercial. The commercial went from 177Mb to 91Mb. No issue. It uploaded to YouTube and plays perfectly fine. The teaser however looks awful when uploaded - looks all blocky/smeary.

Any idea what may be causing this? Could the issue be originating in FCP? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

First thing:  Youtube and Vimeo both "recompress" your file.  Want to create a new project in fcp with a sequence with one clip that is particularly problematic on youtube with filters applied and send project and souorce media  to me and I'll see if there's anything obvious going on?  My email is mgrenadier@gmail.com

Thank you so much for offering to look into this. I'm about to leave for the day; however, I'll get these things to you sometime tomorrow.

On a side note, I realize YouTube and Vimeo recompress, but there shouldn't be such steep drop in quality. As I said, I've compressed and uploaded things before using these same settings and never had this kind of issue.

Thanks again, I'll be in touch tomorrow.

Here's a little thingy you can investigate.  Take a look at your timeline and make sure there isn't a clip or something way down at the end and out of sight.  That's gotten me once or twice.  Now I mark an in and an out on any seuence I'm about to export.

Thanks for the thought, but unfortunately that's not it. I checked my sequence, plus I always mark in and out points when exporting.
