    iPhoto version 9.5.1 (902.17)

Shouldn't I be able to just go to All My FIles and find it there and select 'show enclosing file'? (of which I have done and the largest file is 8.5MB Word Document.)

I just use my iPhone so no large photo files. I do shoot a fair bit of video so I did have a bunch of videos before which I removed.

I did have a problem with iMovie not up-dating properly when all the other apps did.

I just got this Macbook Air 11" earlier this year. Version 10.9.2 (13C1021)

I am guessing that it is b or c.

I have iPhoto version 9.5.1 (902.17) on a Macbook Air 11" that I bought earlier this year running on OS X 10.9.2 (13C1021).

I have tried to sort the files in the Master folder by size but... -interestingly:

All I get is "--" under the SIze column for all the folders except one. The first folder in the first month of the first year. So to be specific, in Folder 2013, is Folder 04, and in that folder are Folders, 03, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 28, and 29. These all read sizes varying from 467.8MB to Zero bytes. Select any of these folders are more folders that also only read "--". And as many of the other folders that I am opening and closing -still not reading a file size besides "--".

I am going through all the other folders one by one right now...

The year - month - day in the pathes corresponds to to import session. It is the day you imported the images.

If you can identify an image in a "day" folder and find its event in iPhoto, you can try to compare the number of image files in the library to the number of photos in the event.

All I get is "--" under the SIze column for all the folders except one

Calculating the sizes may take some time and it may be disabled. When viewing a folder in list view, press the ⌘J key combination. Then enable the option "Calculate all sizes".

    No.

All My FIles is a FInder operation.

iPhoto replaces the Finder for anything to do with your photos, so never interact with a photo managed by iPhoto via that route.

    Try the following:

Starting over from scratch with new library

Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:

    1. Open the library package like this.

    open.PNG

    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.

    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.

    iPhotolibcontents.PNG

This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.

Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

When completed check to see what the size of the new library is.  Also check to see if it has all on your photos or more or fewer.

    Hi Old Toad,

just a question regarding the loss of metadata that you mentioned,

does this mean that also for example faces and locations will be lost?

    thanks a lot

Yes.  But you can use the new library to confrm if all of your original files are still in the library even though they can't be viewed. Here's what I'd do:

    First Try the following:

1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.

    iPMfirstaid.png

    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

    If that fails continue with:

Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library

      1. Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
      2. Click on the Add Library button,

                                iPhoto Library Manager002.jpg

and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.

      3. Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option

                  iPhoto Library Manager001.jpg

      1. In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
      2. Click on the Create button.

Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.

Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

And lastly my first suggestion about starting over with a new library.

If you don't have a backup strategy in place I suggest you implement one ASAP.  Having an external HD with Time Machine would have let you go back in time to just before this happened and restore a working library.

I think I clicked 'This Solved My Question' too quick.

-duh, to solve the "--" issue, 'calcuate all sizes'. I knew that, should have remembered, thanks OT for the keyboard shortcut. I use it like crazy now.

I am doing as OT suggested at the moment but I have noticed that Movies file and Music file both have way too much in them. It is the same issue for all the files. I erase all the music from my iTunes and from iMovie and there is still way too much in the files.

What am I missing with all of this? Why can't I functionally remove things from this computer?

    LarryNH,

At best I am guilt of 'takes one to know one'. -"major attitude problem?"

Let's reread the history recorded in this discussion, your tone clearly shows that your attitude is that I 'can not solve or get help'. to which we can clearly see, others who are helping me. -jealousy?

Ah yes, you have reread the history. Yes, I have an attitude, you're right. My attitude is that computers should be programmed to be intuitive...

Perhaps I am also guilt of baiting you out with my ititial enthusiasm with getting any response to my discussion topic. -you fell for it.

Adult, you must have had this happen to you before. Had some one school you on 'how to answer SIMPLE QUESTIONS' and now you are trying find someone else to do it back to. -make me answer simple questions.

Have a good day LarryHN. It has been possible to get great help and assistance here, I answered simple questions, just not for you -refused.

    LarryHN.

I delete the files in iTunes. I select the tracks under the Songs tab and then, Command Delete.

You have movies and an iTunes library in addition to your iPhoto library on the MBA? In the long run it might be more useful to get a small portable external drive and relocate your media folders to the external drive, so you can enjoy your media instead of continually having to fight for space on the MBA. iPhoto libraries will grow.

Does this bring up this panel?

If you press "Delete item" the audio file will appear in the system trash. And when you empty the sytsem trash you should see the free disk space increase.
