Q: Cannot get into iCloud to set it up from Windows PC
I am currently trying to set up my iCloud.
I am using a Windows 7 based PC, and have downloaded the iCloud software, and I have unlimited broadband with download speed of 7Mbps, and upload speeds of .49 Mbps. I am currently using Chrome (34.0.1874.137 m) as my browser.
When I go to log in using my Apple ID, I am told that this is a valid Apple ID but is not an iCloud account. I click the "Learn more about iCloud" button, which takes me to the What is iCloud web page (http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0efea4). I then go to the Set Up iCloud web page (http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0f1e2a) and select the link "go to the iCloud set up", which takes me to http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ and then I select "For Windows PC". I download the iCloud Control Panel 3.1, and attempt to run it. This takes me back to the log in screen, where I am told that this is a valid Apple ID, but not an iCloud account.
Here's what I've tried so far. I tried rebooting the computer. I tried rerunning the iCloud Control Panel set up. I am given the choice of repair or uninstall. I have tried repairing, which did nothing to improve matters. I tried repairing and then rebooting. I tried uninstalling, and then reinstalling. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and rebooting. No luck. I have gone to www.icloud.com, and again, I am told that I have a valid Apple ID but not an iCloud account. It is maddening that I cannot set up an iCloud account because I don't have an iCloud.
At this point I've invested 2 hours trying to set up iCloud on my Windows PC. I am not going to get an ipad or an Apple, especially if the Apple products and software are this user-unfriendly, so please do not suggest I go buy hardware.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
Windows 7, Chrome, current version.
