Q: How to reroute Maps

Hi All,
I have recently installed Mavericks on a drive and wanted to try out Maps. I asked for direction from my current location to an address 100 Km away as I know the routes available well. Maps totally stuffed it. Of the three routes offered only one was usable and that is the least prefered route as it is 30 Km longer. The other two routes offered take you through heavy forestry areas where the dirt roads are only just usable in a passenger vehicle if it is dry, if it has rained you need a tractor. Both of these routes use parts of the tarred roads that should have been used but then deviate through 8 Km and 18 Km of forestry respectively. How can I correct the route on maps to show the route it should take.

    You pretty much can't.

You could create several bookmarks that force it through the route you want, selecting each sequentially, real-time.

Thanks Barney but real time on the road and a Mac Pro doesn't work. At least I now know not to trust the routing in rural areas in Africa. Sorry I should have said that the route that I looked for was between the two largest cities in the Province

None of that really matters. You can't pick a route except as offered, and you can't have multiple waypoints.

If you are looking to print a desired route as opposed to the suggested, the only way is to break it up into segments, as I described above, regardless of which device you are using.

If you think it is not using the best algorithms for generating the chosen routes, the program has the ability to "Report a Problem." Whether that does any good is still quite far up-in-the-air.

    Hi Barney,

It was only a trial so it doesn't matter but I think there has to be a lot done to make the product usable. When there are three main road routes, a fairly large section of which is dual carriageway, for the product to try and route you through unusable dirt roads is a bit pathetic. Thank you for you knowledge as I couldn't find anything in the product help files.

I agree that sounds bad, but we can't do anything about it. We're just users like yourself. Use the Report a Problem link in Maps, or use the Maps feedback website: http://www.apple.com/feedback/maps_mac.html
