Q: iPhone 4, sounds work in settings but phone no longer rings when called or has camera shutter sound

As per the subject heading. This started happening about 4 months after purchase, though the phone was bought off a friend. Now it doesn't  ring when called or do any other system sounds (unless chosen in settings, it plays ringtone from there), including the shutter sound on the camera when a photo is taken. I can play music out loud though. This was a intermittent issue for a short time, and now it's  constant.

The phone has no damage and I did a full restore, putting it in DFU mode and wiping everything. Still didn't work.

Help please, I'd like to be able to hear and answer my phone when it rings! (It doesn't always vibrate either)

Thanks!

    Hi Jenna280,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that your iPhone 4 no longer rings when a call is coming in or make any other system sounds. It does however make sounds when you go into the settings. The first thing I think of when I hear an issue described this way is that the ring/silent switch may be toggled to silent above the volume buttons. I would check that first because the behavior you describe would be expected if that switch was toggled to silent. The following article has that information as well as other good information you may need about the settings if the switch is not the culprit.
