May 10, 2014 11:41 AM in response to brenden dvby Noisegate52,I've had the 'iTunes has encountered an error' problem for sometime on a Windows 7 32 bit machine and have tried to download music via an older XP machine with the same problem- I've tried ABSOLUTELY EVERY SUGGESTED FIX including the link above, even to the point of buying a new iPod 160gb Classic as I thought the disc was failing on my older Classic. I get to about 2-3000 songs in, slowly adding artist by artist but it still crashes and closes. I've uninstalled all Apple programmes and re-installed them in the correct order. I've copied .dll files. I've created a new user account. I've started pulling my hair out. Pono you say?
I previously managed my iPod Classic with an old iMac G5 which was fine up to a point but it gave up the ghost. I SIMPLY CANNOT SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. Next stop eBay....HELP!!!

May 18, 2014 11:57 PM in response to turingtest2by Noisegate52,I'm happy to run the diagnostic but the iPad classic is brand new- is there a possibility that it is faulty out of the box? Will post the stats tonight.
Cheers

May 19, 2014 12:52 AM in response to Noisegate52by turingtest2,It is always a possibility, as is the chance that there are issues with the source drive, or some kind of software conflict. The break up large transfers technique may help in some cases, although it sounds like you've tried a manual version of that...

May 24, 2014 10:20 AM in response to turingtest2by Noisegate52,I haven't- my music collection is held on an external 1TB USB drive which I historically set up my old Mac to reference from. What would be the procedure to scan the drive for errors or issues that may be causing this? Funnily enough, every non- mac machine I have used (i.e. windows) has had this problem.

May 24, 2014 10:38 AM in response to Noisegate52by turingtest2,Windows has a tool to check the drive for errors (right-click drive, Properties > Tools) however if you don't already have a backup I would suggest you sort one out now. This backup tip shows the tool that I use for this, One of its strong points is that, unlike copying with Windows Explorer, if it comes across a file that it cannot copy it will proceed to the next one. At the end of the run it will list any problems. Windows Explorer just crashes. SyncToy can be run again to make more attempts to copy any files that weren't picked up in an initial run. I've used it on occasion to recover all or nearly user data from a drive that can no longer boot into Windows.

May 25, 2014 1:23 PM in response to turingtest2by Noisegate52,Ran the Windows tool for my external drive, came up with no errors. Went through the link that you kindly provided for troubleshooting, re-installed iTunes and tried to partially load some tunes. ITunes stopped working. Looks like ive run out of options. Any suggestions?

May 25, 2014 2:13 PM in response to KayGeeSeeby sragsd0416,I updated iTunes to the latest version Friday and it has been giving me the "iTunes has encounterd a problem and needs to close" - this followed by windows is searching for a solution message. I downloaded it again and selected repair. Did not work. Computer restart - did not work. Yesterday I somehow got it to work (no idea what combination of stuff except I had this forum up, and selected support - I was even able to purchase the X Men soundtrack. Then today I am back to earlier issue. I have cleared everything I can think of. I also think it is silly to have to competely uninstall and reinstall becuase the update is obviously flawed. BTW This is the 64bit version....fairly frustrated as it seems that all the software coming from Apple is significnatly lacking and flawed....any ideas?
